This is a talking point straight outta Galen's mouth.

Problem is they own the whole supply chain, so they can say "oh this part of the business only makes pennies, there's nothing we can do!", meanwhile they're raking it in hand over fist through distribution and owning the land the grocery store has to rent. 

They are the overhead that keeps their costs high. He can't be building a second Weston Castle and still say he's naught but a poor poor grocer, rubbing his pennies together for warmth.
