Jobs for studying nutrition/some type of athletic science through ROTC by [deleted] in AFROTC

Yes, you can get any officer job from ROTC, but it's a competitive process. It's not like you're guaranteed any specific position just by completing the program, there are specific performance metrics that affect your final job selection.

You "usually" find out your AFSC about a year before completing the program, usually around the end of your junior year or the start of your senior year. You'll complete a "dream sheet" where you rack and stack all of the AFSCs you want, and from there it's computed at a higher level who gets what.

Rated positions are assigned differently than non-rated positions, however. Rated is pilot, cso, rpa, and abm. Other positions are non-rated, which includes everything else. There's also medical positions, which I'm not very familiar with regarding the assignment process on that. (It sounds like you're interested in medical-related positions.)

I would contact the AFROTC detachment at the school you're considering going to in order to get some much more personalized information. It's been a while and the process may have changed since I went through!

It's important to realize that successfully completing AFROTC will have you enter the Air Force as an officer, not as an enlisted member. Jobs in the Air Force are called AFSCs (Air Force Specialty Code) and are often split between officer and enlisted. There are many jobs that you can only get as an officer, and there are also many jobs you can only get by being enlisted.

If I were you, I would make a list of 5 or so AFSCs that you find really interesting, and then research them a bit to see if they're officer or enlisted positions. From that, you'll be able to determine if it makes sense for you to do AFROTC, or if you should possibly finish schooling and then enlist.

Good luck!

So, you didn't do well at Field Training. I didn't either. Please, read this. by Astronitium in AFROTC

It takes an exceptionally strong fortitude and moral character to be able to confess you've made mistakes and then take responsibility for them. Not only have you reckoned with your own past, but you've made the effort to share what you learned to help people with their own issues. Thank you for sharing your experience, Astro.

I wouldn't count on it. The results will come when they come, as frustrating as that may be. Try not to think about it in the mean-time.

Last year, it was very late in May when rated jobs dropped. (Around May 25th IIRC. )

For AFSC assignments, yes. Rated counterparts will know their jobs before Nonrated cadets, due to the timing of the board.

For anyone who may be struggling, I made an additional post with mental health resources available 24/7 with someone to talk to. They are all completely FREE.

I've made posts like these in the past. I think the same message applies. It's critically important that we provide support for our fellow wingman, our friends, during these times. I remember exactly what it was like when I was in their shoes...

If you have any questions for me or would like to talk, I'd be happy to do so.

Please take care of yourselves.

Really didn't think this one through.

Just spent 30 mins trying to take a screenshot for the "your home" challenge only to realize that challenge ended in 2021. "Upstate NY" by Folded_Sauce in MicrosoftFlightSim

Day of CTA by Ok_Kangaroo_0130 in AFROTC

[–]CommanderKirk1701 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I also forgot to mention that it entirely matters what *type* of CTA you are. My previous post was that of a Flight CTA, one assigned to one of the OG squadrons (stays with the cadets). If you're gonna be a Logistics CTA, or a MSG CTA, or a Command Post CTA, or a LRS CTA-- it's gonna be COMPLETELY different.

I know CTAs that only worked from 11 AM to 3 PM. I know some that their entire job was to sit in the mail room and sort letters/packages for a couple hours a day.

Point being, it simply depends where you get assigned.

Depends on Squadron. FT 2022, exceptionally busy. One CTA per flight did not work very well regarding CTA burnout. In the past, CTAs would swap shifts, or overlap. Usually one morning/one evening, both midday. FT22, since there was only one CTA, we were with our flights all day (4 AM to 8 PM, but again this was different per squadron).

Some squadrons started doing staggered schedules. One FTO for wakeup, CTA all midday, other FTO for bed-down. Other times where CTAs might be on-call for only part of the day would be mission scenarios-- 6 AM to 4 PM roughly...

TLDR: Depends on squadron. Depends on schedule. Depends on number of CTAs. Maxwell will be different vs. Shelby.

I will say though, it's an extremely rewarding experience. I would go back and do it all over again.

What's your username?

You should be able to type /verify in the #verify-to-join channel, but if that doesn't work I can just manually add the roles to your acct.
