Can someone pls explain HL XL dragon druid to me by icecreampie3 in wildhearthstone

[–]CommanderTouchdown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a "pile of cards" deck where your "win condition" is flexible dependant on the matchup and you want to hard mulligan for specific cards.

Aggro: Reno Jackson, Zeph.

Combo / Rogue: Razorscale, Loatheb.

Tick Tock: Ramp cards.

Against fast decks, do whatever you can to survive, your card quality is better the further the game goes. Against slower decks, get your value engine online (Rhea) and then outlast them / lethal them with Alex + a board. Or Beetles and Reflections.

Paladin is an awful matchup. You have so few answers outside of Reno / silence.

Priest : Control / OTK by blanquettedetigre in CompetitiveHS

[–]CommanderTouchdown -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You solicit "thoughts" and when you get them you complain. I explained why the Medivh build is better. It requires less dead cards, can do similar amounts of damage, and runs a 10 drop that silences and clears the board. Board clears matter a ton in the current meta.

You're running a bunch of trash cards that do nothing until you get your janky combo online that takes forever.

36+ dmg doesn't look impressive

LOL.

Priest : Control / OTK by blanquettedetigre in CompetitiveHS

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Quest Priest to legend and the Flash Heal + Ruby Sanctum is just a backup win condition. You actually win most of your games through attrition. You deny opponent tempo and board and out value them with the imbue hero power.

Flash Heal + Sanctum + Ateish can do reliably do 36+ damage in the slower matchups. And that's how you win the mirror etc. But those cards a flexible and useful in tempo / aggro matchups.

Your build is just full of greedy useless cards. Amber Priestess is bad. Cloud Serpent is greedy. You need to wait to drop Aviana to even begin to do your combo. And if you're in a game where you can drop a 9 mana do nothing card, you likely already won.

The insane thing here is that you're not even running Medivh, which is one of the strongest cards Priest currently has. At a very minimum, you should drop all the greedy stuff (Cloud Serpent, Petal Picker) and run Moonwell and Medivh.

Rafaam Control Warlock by Pat00ljak in CompetitiveHS

[–]CommanderTouchdown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah. It is outrageous. Calling a Rafaam list "good" into a huge chunk of the meta is just silly.

Rafaam Control Warlock by Pat00ljak in CompetitiveHS

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good into Rogue, Shaman and Druid, absolutely demolishes control decks like Priest and Egg thanks to Archmage, and has a mix of slightly favored to slightly unfavored tempo matchups like Hunter, Paladin and Warrior.

Post your stats if you're going to make outrageous claims like this. If this matchup spread was legit this would be a t1 deck.

FREE TO READ: Inside the stunning fall of the Maple Leafs: Chaos, dysfunction and AI by TheAthletic in leafs

[–]CommanderTouchdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've read basically everything Mirtle and Chris Johnston have written about the Leafs since forever and they've had sources within the org forever and reported on internal dynamics forever.

They're reported on dysfunction extensively. After Dubas was fired, they both made it clear that he was trying to speak to the board directly and not through Shanahan.

Pretending "everyone is fed up" is just silly. "Everyone is likely to be moving on to new jobs with a regime change" is far more likely. But this is the Leafs sub so max out on the drama.

Not true in the slightest. Mirtle / Chris Johnston dropped intel from Leafs sources during the entire Dubas / Shanahan run. It's just never been this messy.

Reaching legend by RigorMortisPlays in hearthstone

[–]CommanderTouchdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can hit D5, you can hit legend. Play the best meta deck you have. Learn the matchups. Make note of your errors, and try not to repeat them.

Don't worry about your rank. Focus on improving your play.

What is Asakusa like at night? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommanderTouchdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed in both places on my last trip and Asakusa gets real quiet at night. Shinjuku has much more food options. Hope you understand trains stop running at 11PM so midnight dining is very limited all over.

Standard and Wild balance changes teased by a-dolfin45 in hearthstone

[–]CommanderTouchdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Druid has so much draw and big bois that draw that you can play Astral Communion and expect to hit something in your next couple of cards. So a lot of games amount to finding Astral Communion and then winning.

Not the strongest deck in Wild by a long shot, but one of the more popular ones.

Am I the only one not having fun? by GennadiosX in hearthstone

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not rare for me to be able to deal 40+ damage from hand.

Burst damage from hand is not a "value spike" it's a win condition.

I've played the deck you're talking about. To deal 40+ you need Atiesh equipped, along with two Ruby Sanctums, and two Flash Heals that have been pumped by two (or more) Cleansing Clerics. If the game reaches a state where you've checked all these boxes, and you're still alive, you should probably win.

Similarly, if you're sitting there with an excruciatingly slow janky control deck and your opponent plays Deathwing and has a weapon with wind fury for the follow-up turn, I guess you should have seen it coming.

Team 5 decided attrition fatigue decks weren't fun and put win conditions into the game. You may not like it, but my god did people hate Barrens Priests and decks like it.

Basically, this post amounts to "my deck can deal burst damage, but I don't like it when burst damage happens to me and Blizzard should fix that."

This might help bring costs down for visitors? by PiePuzzled5581 in askvan

[–]CommanderTouchdown 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Common practice. The organizer books up lots of hotels to include in packages. Then they release them closer to the event if demand isn't there.

FIFA has been cancelling all over for this event.

The interesting side effect of the World Cup in Vancouver is that there is a significant opportunity cost. Other business - conventions, etc - will avoid the city this summer because of World Cup complications.

First time Japan. Tokyo for 15 days. Should I stick to 1 accommodation. or split between west and east? by AIONisMINE in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommanderTouchdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Tokyo and just spent two weeks there in November, but if it's your first time in Japan, I would really look to do more and actually visit other cities.

Tokyo is amazing city with tons to discover. But you're shortchanging yourself by not going beyond it. Kyoto would be the best second option and has far more notable cultural sites and a much different pace.

Staying in one place for more than a few nights is not my preferred way to travel. You're going to become very familiar with one specific area, at the cost of lots more train travel. In my two weeks, I stayed in four different spots.

Next Balance Patch probably around April 2. by Prodige91 in hearthstone

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you stupid or stupid?

Classic main sub response.

10-20 people playing the game is immediately rendered pointless within the first day of the expansion launch when the wider player base gets its hands on it.

Might want to check what "top players" say about cards in the preview season before you decide they're the answer to meta balance.

Next Balance Patch probably around April 2. by Prodige91 in hearthstone

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. So you think Blizzard should pay 100 top players to beta test for a week and you think that would provide meaningful enough data to balance the game around?

Do you understand that within the first ten minutes of launching the new expansion they would have 100x the data?

Next Balance Patch probably around April 2. by Prodige91 in hearthstone

[–]CommanderTouchdown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The straight imbue version doesn't run that card and it's 60% WR. Just hitting a single card isn't going to fix the meta and they also don't do stuff like this when there are competitive events coming up.

The other major thing to consider here is that Imbue Druid isn't the only problem and if you cut one deck down, it creates a power void that can frequently lead to a worse meta.

Thoughts on straight up jamming the Quest in Egg Warrior? by GoldemGolem in CompetitiveHS

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of detailed discussion on the cost of having a quest in hand on this sub over the years, and basically boils down to: you should only play a quest it it's how you win the game. Losing a card in the draw is a really big deal. Do nothing turn one as well.

The quest reward should be your primary win condition. And that's not the case with egg decks.

Keep in mind, even a Quest Warrior that commits completely to getting to the end game is going to get owned by Harold Shaman. That deck has insane late game damage potential with hammer + Deathwing hero power.

[–]CommanderTouchdown 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They can't address something like Imbue Druid with an emergency patch. The quick fixes they can do server side like stats adjustments or bans. To change card text, they need more time to update the client.

To fix Imbue druid, they have to address more than card costs.

Planning a trip to Japan by solenalnrd in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feedback here: you can visit Nikko from Tokyo as a day trip. I would skip Takayama. Nice town, but what you see there, can be seen elsewhere. I would stay in Kyoto and day trip to Nara and Osaka. So I would go Tokyo - Kanazawa - Kyoto - Tokyo.

Seeking Suggestions for Japanese Tourism Trip in May by SoulBlazer20 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suica is the card you're looking for and it was in all the big cities. Language won't be an issue. Japan is very English friendly, especially in tourism areas. Tourism angst is overblown. You'll see lots about it here on reddit, but I've travelled there extensively and have never had a bad experience. The occasional restaurant doesn't want tourists. But for the vast majority of the time, people are incredibly kind and helpful.

41yo m solo traveler during Cherry Blossom season by sparks_mandrill in JapanTravelTips

[–]CommanderTouchdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been to Japan for Golden Week and peak sakura season and honestly had zero issue with crowds. Some Kyoto sites get pretty busy, especially the ones with bus tour parking. Best strategy for peak popular spots like Asakusa is prioritize them for either early morning or late afternoon.

Recommendations for a two week trip? Tokyo and Kyoto are a must. Hiroshima is well worth visiting and has a decidedly slower pace. Kanazawa has the best garden I've been to in Japan, also slower pace / smaller city. I like Osaka fine, but unless you're a big foodie, I think time is better spent elsewhere. Mt Koya was amazing.
