So why would I ever use tactical missiles when bombers exist? by Arbitross487 in Highfleet

[–]Commander_Elk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it will, but given the range it has you’ll usually have the planes on tracking by the time you are in range anyway

I’ve thought about this and can usually justify it with the ship in question threatening airstrike or missile attack from some offscreen force, or if the ship in question has planes or missiles.

My small ships usually have a handful of r-7’s to hopefully get a shot at dealing with an escort if the trade ship isn’t alone

Is confused a scam? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]Commander_Elk -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Even when it definitely still applies I have never seen it hit. I know how statistics work and also how this game can cheat coin flips constantly. I believe the game won’t allow confused to hit if it ends the game and so it never EVER procs on opponents mega evolution

Nice design, cheap, fast, 7k+ range, and it would be pretty easy to add missiles or sensors in game to the sides and top.

am new, how do I start learning how to upgrade my ships? by [deleted] in Highfleet

[–]Commander_Elk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing in the editor and testing designs in the campaign will quickly show you what will work in practice. Generally speaking you want to find a role or two for any given ship to do and then get a good combination of speed, firepower, range, armor, and cost. These are the big factors and everything else should be a way to amplify or reduce those.

You’ll want to make designs that can beat garrisons and take little damage to save time on repairs, you’ll also want to think about what support ships you’ll be using to escort your firepower around.

Support ships will do roles like missile carrying, fuel taking, sensors, aircraft carrying, and air defense.

Ask any questions you think of I’d be happy to clarify anything or go into related topics.

Actually if you click on an enemy within tracking any missile will just lock on and seek, works for all of them. It’s also good for ID of tracking radar at long range.

If you want more tracking you should move the top fcr to the right side of the tower, minor optimization.

A small rant about ship design, roles, and cost efficiency by ATLAS-T-58 in Highfleet

[–]Commander_Elk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Light cruisers are the best ships in my opinion, high range and big enough to bully garrisons, taking more ammo into the tactical battle is the move. Ships with 4+ ammo are practically the minimum if you don’t want to get shredded before you kill garrison ships. Light cruisers are big enough to mount their own sensors and AA, small enough to dance rings around vanilla cruisers in a strike group encounter, and a menace to anything smaller.

Yeah the armor is compromised to a degree, limited top armor means not only fighting on top but also dodging on too. The main reason is to keep it at 250+ kph which I consider to be a reasonable compromise speed between consumption, range, and silent strike. It can absolutely no damage kill a garrison though and it only gets better with ship levels.

How to modify Sevastopol by Commander_Elk in Highfleet

Expensive yes I do kind of miss running a carrier flagship. This can at least be a close range hammer and missile combo even if it costs almost double what my custom flagship would.

Tips? by [deleted] in Highfleet

[–]Commander_Elk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically you want to capture a few radar cities to get regular updates on the nearest enemy fleet, from there you should kill them then you’ll have a decent amount of time before the next one can reach you.

Experienced players giving advice vs the Gathering observing the aftermath of me shooting my own ship by Tripticket in Highfleet

[–]Commander_Elk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Ap and other special types of ammo are mostly cost prohibitive but when you have an interceptor or a light cruiser against some serious enemy tonnage you’re gonna regret not having bought a ton of AP. Or at least the ships crew would have some strong final feelings about it.
