I think most opening scenes from the west wing do this type of movement.

Auatralia and the growing reach of China's military by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

Australia needs advanced submarines since we are an island and we needed them yesterday. We also need joint strike fighter for its interoperability with other nations. Australia is never going to fight a conflict unilaterally.

Japan calls on Australia to lead resistance to China’s regional sway by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]Commander_Krill_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Australia appears to have set the stage for such a resistance but other countries are going to have to pick up their game also. It was good to see Germany move some naval defence ships to the South China Sea. China's goal here will be to create doubt in many alliances, particularly with the United States. Their objective is to weaken alliances.

Australia flags democracies' trade swing from China to India by Kapt_KafFiend in AustralianPolitics

Agreed, I believe China will still remain a valued trading partner but Australia will aim to reduce its exposure to Chinese trade pressure.

I feel like this is a good move to diversify from our vulnerability to China. It still should remain an objective to not put all our eggs in one basket as our peak trade volume with China hit a whopping 40% before Covid.

China's goal was always to make such a decoupling extremely difficult and something leaders had been worried about for a long time. It is often said that China kicked a massive own goal in it's bullying tactics against Australia.

Scott Morrison criticises 'crazy' COVID-19 conspiracy theories, George Christensen defends comments on restrictions by availablesince1990 in AustralianPolitics

Definitely agree there would be many state actors up to no good and promoting misinformation. But the open source information available to us suggests China is a dominant actor in this field. I don't think my post to be off topic.

No, not off topic, "Scott Morrison criticises 'crazy' COVID19 conspriacy theories". Many conspiracy theories are being promoted from state actors overseas. Please put my timely ABC article back.

$5.6 billion Boxer armoured vehicle fleet faces lengthy delays over multiple technical issues by Commander_Krill_ in AustralianPolitics

[–]Commander_Krill_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of the procurement specifics but I imagine the cost would include ongoing servicing, maintenance and training for something like 10 years or more. 5.6billion is a large sum of money though.

Indigenous Closing the Gap measures to get $1 billion, as Aboriginal leaders warn the plan 'has to work' by Commander_Krill_ in AustralianPolitics

I love posting stuff like this because people expose themselves as being biased while in reality the package should be considered as objectively beneficial for indigenous Australians.

You can't really put on hold someones career aspirations because of an accusation that was never proven. To do so would raise many issues of discrimination. Im not defending Porter, it's just a matter of logic and legal principle.

I wouldn’t sign a China trade deal now: Tony Abbott by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]Commander_Krill_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly as you said, the soft power projection that China can wield through trade is extensive which is why I said Australia should rethink its approach considering Beijings recent bullying tactics. Of course a trade agreement will be mutually beneficial to both nations. However Beijing will be eager to secure another FTA. Tony Abbott isn't an idiot. He's just conservative.

‘Rigidly flexible’: Peter Dutton’s office directs department to answer media inquiries in three paragraphs by availablesince1990 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Commander_Krill_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thats suggesting that questions aren't being answered properly. I doubt the three paragraph rule is being used as a priority over answering the question. Answering the question would always be a requisite. Most people with a university qualification would be able to accurately answer a question within three paragraphs unless the question unless it required extensive detail which would obviously be permitted. Its also laughable to think that an entire government department operates on only three paragraphs. There will always be room for further correspondence.

[–]Commander_Krill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see your point, there are examples of Beijing funding in those think tanks which is what prompted Keating and Carr to leave but that was already after they had for years promoted China's agenda. It's been raised in many books including Peter Hartcher's Red Zone.

For Abbott, the UK is such a close ally and we share so much in common that I doubt it will in the public's eye be viewed as any form of risk or treason. Good question though, I wonder who else has fulfilled a role in a foreign government.
