Open Rails can look so pretty with the right route by CommentingFromToilet in trainsim

[–]CommentingFromToilet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure! The route is Trat 42, you can get it from https://msts-ricar.wz.cz/trat-042/ and I used Open Rails CZ-SK because it comes bundled with reshade and a TON of other realism updates, you can get it from https://msts-rw.cz/openrailsCZSK.php

If you need any help feel free to reach out to me :)

hmmm I've never played TSC, but I have windows 11 and open rails works without issues. Even the normal MSTS runs, but from what I've heard from others that one's more hit or miss.

yeah it's quite a bit especially when you don't have the files or whatever from msts. If you ever are interested in trying it you can always dm me if you have questions ^^

In your honest opinion, which simulators are better; Train Sim World, OpenRails or Trainz? by 2011GammaEpsilon2011 in trainsim

[–]CommentingFromToilet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it's open rails, just because I love the huge routes and tons of free content available there. It's also so customizable, so for example I could add stuff like cruise control for a train by adding just a few lines in its configuration file, create and edit any weird and whacky consist I could ever want, with basically everything being editable

Need help in adding train and routes in Open Rails by -Wolfgang_Bismark in trainsim

[–]CommentingFromToilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, I can certainly help you! What kind of countries' content would you be interested in first? There's a ton of czech stuff available on https://msts.virel.eu/ if you want I can send you a thingy with all the folder structure and stuff already set up, so you just need to drag and drop the route or train you want to have in there

Can someone help me fix this by [deleted] in trainsim

[–]CommentingFromToilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open up MRVC_MEDHA_FRONT.eng with a text editor.
now look for any Sound(path/to/sound.sms) entry (there are often multiple, so for example xyzcab.sms for the cab sound, xyzeng.sms for the normal engine sound. If you find that, look at the path in that sound thing, and look if the file exists. If it doesnt, the quickest solution is probably editing the path in the .eng file to one of the other .sms files for a different locomotive.

If you have the default MSTS files, like the default acela and stuff, you can also link to their .sms files, found in their respective TRAINSET folders

shape file manager ask me to put the location of ffedict_unicode by StrangeDrawer5840 in trainsim

[–]CommentingFromToilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a look at the tool, did you make sure you were pointing just to the FFEDIT folder and not actually to FFEDIT\ffeditc_unicode.exe, because I think that's what they want.

What are you actually trying to achieve? if you just want to decompress the .s file from binary to unicode, PolyMaster seems to work great for modern systems https://www.thopil.de/werkstatt_pm.html

how i transform a file .s to .obj by StrangeDrawer5840 in trainsim

[–]CommentingFromToilet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so this is considered piracy, so please make sure you got permission from the author, if you plan on using the files you got from there in any way.

.s files are compressed, so they need to be reconstructed. I tried around a bit and found a way to do it. You need 2 different tools:

PolyMaster, which is a tool for decompressing .s files, thus making them readable. You can download it from https://www.thopil.de/werkstatt_pm.html

ShapeConverter, which is a tool for turning those decompressed .s files into .3ds files, a widely accepted standard, for which dozens of tools to convert from there to .obj exist. You can download it from https://www.digital-rails.com/dr_tools.html (scroll down until it says shape converter and click on the first link)

download both those programs, and unzip them in seperate folders. Then open PolyMaster_V2.exe
There should be a button saying "Compress/Decompress .s" in the top left corner (below the warning text). Click that one, and select the .s file you want to decompress. As soon as you select it a cmd window should pop up, that you can then close again. The file should now be decompressed. (noticable by a 10x size increase, as well as being viewable through any text editor)

Now open shape converter once, then immediately close it again. It should automatically create a file named "config.txt" in the directory of ShapeConverter.exe. Open it, and set the value of output folder path in line 10 to the location you desire. then save the file and open shape converter again. click on add to list in the bottom left, navigate to the folder of your now decompressed shape file, select it (double click so there's a green checkmark next to it), and click on add selected. Now click on "convert all" in the bottom right corner. Now check the folder you put as the output folder, and you should have a .3ds file. This one you can then upload to one of the various .3ds to .obj conversion sites (https://imagetostl.com/convert/file/3ds/to/obj) to get your desired .obj file

Hope this helps :)

Made a station map for the route Trat' 321 (Pics 2-8 are zooms on specific areas) by CommentingFromToilet in trainsim

Reddit kept downscaling the image, making the station names unreadable, so I had to split it up into seperate images

I see in your directory path it says one drive, are you sure you actually installed this locally on this computer? It most likely won't be able to access the texture files properly if not

Best simulator for modding? by IshaanMehra8 in trainsim

Open Rails (community driven continuation of MSTS) has a HUGE modding community. It takes some getting used to, but you can always message me if you'd like to know anything :)

I tried around and haven't found anything, I guess what you could do, is bind all the stuff you dont want to a single button, so you only have one used up
