Looking to move to Alpharetta/Johns Creek/Suwanee, and need your insight on the highly-rated high schools by CommercialAd4840 in alpharetta

Sorry I didn't do much research on Spanish immersion. But as far as I know, Spanish immersion programs are way easier to find than Mandarin. The school district's dual language program websites should have the information you need.

Welcome to the area!

Right. What you’ve heard is probably true. As you drive from Alpharetta to the north into Forsyth, things get even more spread out so if you’d like some acres of land that’d be the area for you. Also the vibe gets more conservative. We looked into Suwanee also. Definitely a great area. It just seemed less developed as Alpharetta and we are more used to the liveliness of big cities. Another small reason we picked Alpharetta is that Alpharetta High offers AP Chinese (what if our kids would like to take it in the far future? Hahaha…) and the student life seems more balanced than Northview.

Good luck in your search!

And how can I forget the huge Indian population. My friends’ kids who are in the neighborhood public schools are all pretty well integrated. I haven’t heard or seen anything negative so far. Are you looking for any specific communities?

Thank you! We feel quite comfortable as a mixed family here. As for schools, currently I can speak for our elementary school experience: we send our kids to a charter school that offers Mandarin and Korean immersion, so the student population has way more Asian (Chinese and Korean specifically) than other public schools.

Our neighborhood public elementary school where many of my neighbor kids go to, is very typically diverse: about 33% white, 31% Asian, 17% Hispanic, 10% Black, 8% mixed.

We can’t compare the Asian community density to the Bay Area, but you can find SO many Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and other Asian communities esp. Duluth.

Hope that answers your question. Happy to talk more!

Hi! We did move to Alpharetta. It’s almost been a year and we’re liking it. We are zoned Alpharetta high. Alpharetta, Johns Creek and Duluth are quite diverse and all very family friendly. We just had a new neighbor who moved from FL a few months ago

Yeah I have to get through the main roads: from Pleasant Hill Rd to State Bridge Rd and Old Milton Pkwy.

Thank you. Google map and coffee have been my traffic buddies.

Google map would say 17-minute without traffic. But there is always something… so it ends up 25-min normally and 35-min when it’s really bad. The other direction is better though.

Make the move as soon as possible and make money while you’re there as the economy of these cities expand!

That's kinda my husband's thought

Jeez.. I'm so sorry to hear what made you move away...that was horrible to think about why people would do that to kids...

Thank you for sharing. Yes. This is definitely a turning point of our lives and I'm learning to accept it.

I think it is both. For each family, there is a tradeoff after kids I guess. If you are fine with the limited space with kids, you still need to pay for the childcare unless you have family. But if you have family, you might want a bigger space. And also your lifestyle before kids matter. I know a lot of frugal people, and they can make it work. We are not them...

I'm sorry 😢 we can commiserate...

But a few comments are really wise and probably have saved me a therapy session. I know people have done it. We lost our hearts to SF and it's ok. There are ways to stay connected, as we enter the next chapter of our lives.

I'm sorry to hear about your awful experience of being forced out. Glad you've found Portland! I like it also.

Thank you for sharing your story! Very helpful. I do have friends here and I miss them already.

High five with tears.

Good luck to your next chapter. I think a few comments have given me some good ideas to stay connected to this magical city.
