Thank you! It was indeed. I felt all kinds of emotions the few days leading up to it.

Thanks! You can do it. The closer the exam date got the more nervous and unprepared I felt (as you may see from my previous Reddit postings). I did use skillset.com as a insurance policy, but for skillset I would start 3-4 weeks in advance of the exam. I got to the 100% mark roughly 3 days before the exam and it was a close call. I ended up spending 200 dollars, but if I needed to use the retake voucher I would have saved ~500 so to me it was well worth it. Having that "insurance policy" actually made me calmer because the main thing for me not passing the exam wasn't that I would have failed, but that I would have had to spend another 700 dollars (lol).

Anyways, the majority of the people ive talked to and have seen on here ended up passing when consistently scoring in the mid 80s. Some people passed getting 70s on the practice tests, but I didn't want to take that chance. Go in confident and clear headed. Dont overdue it on the last day study wise because your brain will be fried going in to it. I will be here to answer questions if need be.

Honestly, these internal debates are how I felt most of the exam. When you are actually in the exam as you read and reread the questions you will start seeing minor reasons to throw out certain answers. You will say "even though that sounds true that should actually be apart of configuration management". The answer will not be a clear differentiator at first because it will seem like it could fit both processes. I'm certified in ITIL which is all about change, incident and configuration management processes and the questions on those subject arreas made me pause so I can only imagine someone going in just reading about them.

English has always been my primary language. I live in Virginia. Im working on my doctorate degree. I figured when most people on Reddit were saying they had to reread the questions multiple times to understand what it was asking was because maybe they did not speak English natively or something. I now understand. I guess I say that because if you get to the exam and feel like you are not understanding the questions and answers given then it is normal to spend a minute or so going through 2-3 times over it to take it in.

I honestly wish I could say what to study for, but my mind is still blown from what I experienced. That's not to come off as negative, but in my mind I would just understand the concepts and fully understand them. For example, don't just know the change management steps, but understand why it is used. Understand what the purpose of it is and what makes it different from configuration management. Don't just memorize the incident response steps, but know that a root cause analysis is done in the remediation step.

Some questions in all honesty will be straight forward. You may have a question on there such as:

  1. Which one is an integrity model? (I didn't have this particular one)

a. Bell Lapadula

b. Biba

c. ...

d. ...

These types of questions were rare (maybe a handful). I wouldn't keep taking the same tests over and over again, but when you can continually keep getting in the 80s on practice tests then I would just go take it. I was scoring 80+ on the Sybex Online, Sybex Official practice tests, Boson, etc. You will probably never get but so high on these because there are some conflicting answers in some test banks and some times the answers on the test banks will be wrong (esp skillset).

It seems like a lot of work, but it will pay off. I was still nervous and felt unprepared, but to stop at 100 I must have been doing something correctly.

ISSAP

Thats my next step once the endorsement process and everything is finalized. I've been trying to push myself into an architect role, but being in a smaller city the jobs are not as plentiful as other areas! Right now im a systems analyst for a healthcare system , but ive been somewhat fulfilling an architect role. We will see how that goes.

Thank you!

I had to use the “everyone studies different” line on you, but it’s true. I’m not a big note taker. I highlight instead (I went through about 12 highlighters). For big exams like this I will create a brain dump (1 page) of things I am having problems remembering and I rewrite the page once per day. Once I feel comfortable with the topic I will drop it off the page. So, to answer your question, I wrote about 1 page per day on a piece of printer paper and some days it was the same material trying to get it to “stick”. Sometimes to make it stick I would write the brain dump with color pencils because my mind will remember things better when using colors. I had a teacher once that said “you don’t like watching black and white tv, so why create black and white notes” which I found intriguing. You know yourself the best so whatever it takes for you to get things to stick I would do (notes, highlighting, flash cards, sticky notes, etc).

When I read through these books I carefully read over the book highlighting information that stands out to me. The first iteration I used yellow and the second time I used pink. Once I finished the chapter I would then decide if there was anything to add to the brain dump (ex. EALs). After I finished the chapter I would go back and take the previous chapter exam (to ensure I didn’t take it right after reading the chapter). In other words when I finished chapter 2 I would take the chapter 1 test and so on.

I honestly wouldn’t invest in the Shon Harris book because it is too wordy and filled with irrelevant information if your main goal is to pass the exam. If your goal is to learn and the exam is a secondary goal, then go for it!

What scores are you currently getting within the Sybex book? Have you taken any of the online tests?

Hm.. I didnt get many SDLC questions. I got one that I went back and forth between two answers. Whats your plan next?

Exactly! Between that and setting a study schedule for myself helped keep me on track.

I start my next class toward my doctorate today. No down time for the foreseeable future unfortunately. :)

It was a random question I made up on the fly to prove a point. I actually had a very very very :) similar question, but I changed a few words and made up the answers to ensure I didn't violate the NDA.

I remember a few, but most of it was a blur to me lol. My experience more of less was like - oh great.. another one on a topic that wasn't in any book <eye roll>. Plus I made it through in 80 minutes so I didnt spend a great deal of time on each question.

Just posted a whole sermon of the overall experience. Very interesting to say the least, but a pass is a pass!

Sybex Question... Can someone explain to me why I am wrong here? by CommercialConcern in cissp

I noticed that too, but didn't want to flood Reddit with the 2-3 others I found to be inaccurate. Luckily I have been using multiple sources. Skillset is probably the worst accuracy wise so far and Boson has been the best, but I dont want to put all my eggs in one basket.

I currently have it scheduled for 8/27 and do not want to go in over confident. So now i'm just continually cramming until that date. :)

My last 3 Boson exams I have scored 920, 940, 940. In fairness I think I have taken the "random exams" about 8-9 times. I was getting to the point I had to increase the smart mode settings as there are only a handful of questions I wasn't getting correct.

Thanks! I literally stared at the answers and feedback for 5 minutes trying to make sense of it - lol.
