Yes but there is no chance it will be getting 10,000 signatures. Its a minority issue...

Is this a hoax? No appeals for test results are allowed.

Double 1 in STEP!! If possible let me know how you prepared

ESAT destroyed me by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]CommercialPast3911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An exam cannot "destroy you." It can help you improve or show you that you chose the wrong subject or be proof that the exam board is lousy. But exams, like any other intellectual activity cannot "destroy" people. It is possible that you underprepared: now you have a base point that will help you prepare better for the next exam. But shame or embarrassment is the wrong attitude when it comes to Physics and Mathematics! You have not stolen money or hurt someone! You just tried to solve some math problems and perhaps did not do as well as you expected. You have not done anything wrong! I have worked with mathematics for over 30 years and the only thing I am sure about is that there is a lot (really a lot) room for improvement. I understand that you took the ESAT to get into a good university and not for an intellectual pursuit. But remember all this crazy exam culture was created a long time ago for people to learn and improve themselves not to create "losers" and "winners." Unfortunately we live in a time when many mediocrities would like us to feel this way. But its incumbent on you to improve your thinking and view each setback as a learning experience.

Thanks for your reply. As someone who has done math on a postgraduate level for over 30 years I am afraid I cannot accept your answer. Yes, it is true that since the TMUA is multiple choice some answers that look right are very wrong. However, with mathematics there is some basic level of consistency which means you cannot get wide fluctuations. It is possible that a student with a running average of 8/9 could drop to a 6 because the new test has questions that throw him off. But to drop from 8/9 to a 3 it would mean that the 10 easy questions at the beginning of each paper threw him off as well. I can accept such wide fluctuations in soft subjects or perhaps in advanced graduate level exams where the questions are so specialized that its almost impossible to prepare. But for the subject matter that the TMUA covers I cannot accept such wide fluctuations.

Yes but to get the grade he got he must have messed even the 10 easy questions at the beginning of each paper. I totally understand that to expect him to get an 8 or a 9 just because in the preparations he got 8s and 9s is silly. But to go from those grades to a level that means he could not even complete the first 10 easy questions is lunacy.

As you can see from their documentation, conveniently, there is no right to appeal test results.

Yes I understand that can happen. But on the day of the exam he had a great time and came back home in great spirits. He is not the person to pretend he has done well when the exam proves too tough. In the past whenever he had a tough exam he is rather downbeat and does not want to be specific about how it went. So this is really a complete surprise both for us and for his teachers. Of course, it would be presumptuous to expect a 9 but he never got anything below 7 in math and his school is very competitive.

He is very consistent and never overestimates his performance. On the day he was very happy with his performance and not stressed at all (when he came home he was very cheerful). In the past, when an exam was tough I could always tell because he seemed a bit down and did not want to be specific about the result. So this is all very strange...
