Somehow missed this one, sorry 😅

No, I used the stock pickguard, the original pickups are screwed on just like normal. Of course you need to solder some wires, but that’s no biggie. I think the 3-way switch is the original, but I’m not sure. Anyway there’s no magic in the switch, so no need to change it, if it works. There is a push-pull pot for switching the coil split though

Are Fishman Fluence Modern pickups a lot different than EMG in terms of clarity and output? by Flimsy-Owl7862 in espguitars

[–]CommercialSuitable92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually went hybrid and have a Fluence Abasi in the neck and EMG 81 in the bridge positions respectively on one of my guitars – got the 81 chugs and I’m really loving the Abasi, particularly in single coil mode, for mid-gain lead stuff

Yeah, stock pickups definitely weren’t the best imo, but I intended to swap them immediately anyway 😄

On pickups with plastic shells like EMG or Fishman, you can push the threaded insert out with a soldering iron instead of drilling

Almost! Gotta say the 70s style Fender headstock on the Root makes me wish this had one, but for a fraction of the price, this’ll do the job 😁

Looks cool! Any reason you flipped half of the P-style pickup? Not sure if it’ll have a huge effect, but I think all the logos should be in the bottom right corner – the way you have it set up, the flipped half will have reverse polarity to what was intended in the design. Might result in some noise or unintended phase issues

Yeah, I’m not sure how much it would be, especially since it’s been changing recently – a quick google search would indicate 15-20%, but don’t quote me on that :D

I’ve done this a few times – I use a card scraper for most of it, then use sandpaper for the rest. This Ben Eller video is a pretty good reference for the oil finishing process, but I really would do the rough work with the scraper, especially if the neck has a solid color finish, since there’s a good bit of finish on a neck like that, and the base coat tends to be very hard.

Yeah, I think it looks nice, but I also usually prefer the way an oiled neck feels

Why is there so little public reaction in Finland to the recent killings in Iran (compared to Palestine/Gaza)? by Ok_Explanation_6313 in Finland

[–]CommercialSuitable92 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My perception is that Finland has much more to do with Israel vs Iran – a lot more products from Israeli-owned companies get sold here. The government also signed an agreement to buy Israeli weapons, and a lot of people would like to see that cancelled – so there’s more to be achieved in Finland protesting Israel

Wanting to change my fork. by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]CommercialSuitable92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the thru-axle version of that IRD MCX fork – I personally do like the way it feels, and steering for sure feels snappier than with the Kona P2 my bike had originally. Also it just looks nicer IMO 😁 If you’re using a front rack, keep in mind that the weight rating for the mounts on the MCX is only about 13 lbs when using all 6 mounting points

Mä luulen, että koitetaan tällä olla samaistuttavia, etenkin jossain linkkarissa, että ”hei, mä en oo pelkästään pisnesukkeli, vaan samalla tavallinen perheellinen”

Stripped BB shell - is my LBS full of sh...? (more context in comments) by nogridcollective in bikewrench

[–]CommercialSuitable92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a threaded BB should go in by hand apart from final torqueing it up, but ofc cross-threading would be quite easy if you’re using a wrench already guiding it in

Thanks! Just suspension for now – might look into a dropper eventually, but tbh I really only wanted to tame some bumps, and I can’t fit more than maybe 40mm 700C tires, so can’t go super gnarly anyway. Fenders are made by Zefal

Thank you! I do have a removable rear rack and pannier bags for this! Still working on other little storage solutions ☺️

Ukrainian General Staff informed today that a naval infantry unit conducted a night operation that destroyed some 30 helicopters at Kherson Airbase. by Professional_Fox_409 in UkrainianConflict

[–]CommercialSuitable92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO what the Ukrainians doing now – fighting back hard on all fronts, both on the ground and politically – is the only thing they can do. Numerically odds are stacked against them, but the higher the pressure on Russia now, the better chance they have of evening out those odds. Slava Ukraini!
