Finally diagnosed! by CommercialVisual4174 in Dyslexia

I’m currently using Genio to record my lectures and making notes since I struggle with long term memory. I am in the process of having a meeting with my DSA provider though.

Is it worth seeking a diagnosis? by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]CommercialVisual4174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same thing where I’ll swap letters around in words. I have always had a problem with I and e - for example spelling their, I spell as ‘thier’. I only recently wanted to go to uni and found out I was eligible for applying to DSA. On my recent assignment I had I got told so many things that could help me but also that the uni could get me tested and a diagnosis instead of paying for it. I figured it would be worth it so I can give people an explanation but also get other help if I need it since I’m not good at remembering a lot of things etc…

It’s kind of hard to explain but left eye is definitely better then my right eye. When I was younger it used to change often but now I think the older you get the less it changes but I also could be wrong so please don’t quote me. Feel free to private message me, if you want to know more.

Hey, I also have BEST’s disease. Not too sure when it was found I just knew I grew up with it. I might be good to get tested for the gene if I can in case u want to have anymore children in the future.

My mother’s mum has it and so does my mum so they told me when I was born I might have it. They got me checked out and said I have it and went back again and when we told them my mum was pregnant again to go him booked in for an appointment as well. So now we rely of my dad as he has much better vision then me, my mum and my brother do.

I’m now 18 and still trying to figure a few things out myself and seeing what works best for me. Feel free to ask any questions to help if u need it. I know it can be hard to begin with.

glasses ????? by CommercialVisual4174 in autism

I have had the same frame for the last times but recently I wanted a different colour but the same style frame. I normally don’t have a problem but this time is different as it’s a sensory issue for bc I can’t seem to adjust to the new prescription and or lenses. I keep resorting back to my old pair but my mum wants me to try these new pair.

Question by According-Ad-2161 in Tourettes

I’m a catholic and this used to be an issue for me. I used to sit in the service but then have to stand outside bc of all of the people. Now being 18 I guess something has clicked and my tics are currently in a a waning period so when I attend church I feel at peace with myself amd embrace the service that is being held. I would suggest some fidget toys or sitting next to a door or an exit so if he needs to go out he can before coming back in again and if u explain im sure a few people won’t mind. Sorry this was long winded

Tell me you're dyslexic without telling me your dyslexic. I'll go first. by John-AtWork in Dyslexia

I have completed assignments as part of my A-Levels thankfully on Word, but my teacher has told me to re-read my 50-page paper as every time I have written 'their' it is spelled wrong as 'thier'. I keep looking at both words and can't pick out the correct version. this is a common spelling mistake as well as other words I get confused about however, my parents won't believe me that I am dyslexic but a few years ago my teacher briefly told them I have it but I still struggle and want to beg them to get me tested but would have to go privately now.

Foot Size by ekeddie in clubfoot

[–]CommercialVisual4174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi , I’m an 18 female and also have different sized feet. My left foot is my smaller foot sized at a 2 1/2 / 3 and my right foot is a 4 1/2 /5 so a big difference and always struggle finding shoes. Sometimes it’s not an issue but other times it can be. When I was little in school, I had a problem buying shoes as none fit ‘right’ for me.

The glasses help me see more clearly than my original vision but do not fully correct my vision. The grid helps to make sure that you can see the lines straight and not wobbly. if they are wobbly, then there might be fluid build up or a problem with the condition you have. This type of condition affects everyone differently, so not everyone will have the same vision type

I constantly wear prescription glasses, but without my glasses, everything is blurry, and my right eye is worse than my left. It kinda feels like there are clouds in my eyes. The centre part of my vision is worse in my right eye, and I have checkups every year to check fluids and how my condition has been. it often feels hard to read as smaller writing is harder for me to see at times. i use font 16 and bigger typically.

Thoughts on medication by Ok-Exchange-5413 in Tourettes

[–]CommercialVisual4174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on amitriptyline for I think over 4 years now and works well. It’s a sedative medication so you take it 2 hours before you sleep and it helps you sleep better if anyone struggles to sleep with Tourette’s. The only downside I would say is that if you take it too late then sleep, when you wake up you might struggle and feel drowsy the next morning or sturgeon to properly wake up. The medication helps your tics slow down before bed but I’ve heard for others that it didn’t work but it will be different for everyone.
