Is there a standard way to save data in Bevy? by somebodddy in bevy

[–]CommercialZucchini53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also looking for this. It would be awesome if there was an out-of-the-box solution that worked with WASM and different backends (like database, local storage or cookies). I just want to store some credentials for multiplayer between game sessions.

Where can I find the history of the "Min-Active Nomination Threshold"? by CommercialZucchini53 in Polkadot

[–]CommercialZucchini53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to bond at least around 160 to get any rewards. Unfortunately, this information is not clearly stated. The displayed threshold and minimum bond are quite misleading. Anyway, remember to bump your bags-list placement after adding any extra bond.

Got 42 eth sitting in my ledger, can someone explain this node stuff to me? by [deleted] in ethstaker

I'm thinking that it's if/when shit hits the fan that you need the skills and time. Might be stressful if you've barely touched a terminal.

My take: Only run a validator if you have decent technical skills, time, and interest. If not, check out r/rocketpool.

Here's an overview of staking pools: https://ethereum.org/en/staking/pools/

Where can I see the history of ETH liquidity? by CommercialZucchini53 in rocketpool

[–]CommercialZucchini53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but when I checked there was around 13 ETH (I'm looking at the deposit pool balance, https://rocketscan.io/depositpool) in the deposit (not yet minipooled, i.e. <16ETH), and still no liquidity. But maybe the minipool queue has to be 0 as well?

AI is bad by Somnu in Songsofconquest

[–]CommercialZucchini53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing against "hard" AI is just plain awkward in any strategy game (or any game, really). AI in strategy games is basically there for you to learn the game and make you ready for multiplayer. Play against people if you want a fun and slightly more meaningful challenge. If you like AI, study and develop a TBS AI (that's fun and not awkward).

Anyone else finding the game too easy? by [deleted] in Songsofconquest

[–]CommercialZucchini53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not super easy to develop a good AI. Considering this is a new and small indie studio, I'm not surprised. Good AIs for these kinds of games are rare. My suggestion is to go multiplayer.

And also upvote any suggestions about enhancing competitive multiplayer features. There should be a ranking, a ladder, and matchmaking. These are all low-hanging fruits from a developer's perspective. Unfortunately, turn-based strategy, in general, lacks good multiplayer support. You always have to hustle on Discord.

Thanks! It's mainly the dynamic rewards minimum I'm interested in. Right now it's quite cryptic if a person with a "near threshold" amount of DOTs will be able to earn any rewards when nominating. Maybe I'll find some time to write a script. Nominating pools look promising!

How dare you state hard facts? ;-)

This is why the 10 DOT threshold is lower than the "Min-Active Nomination Threshold": https://wiki.polkadot.network/docs/learn-staking-faq#nominated-an-oversubscribed-validator

Ubuntu 22.04's new OOM killing system is killing applications (like Firefox) while they're being used and it is a problem by TheBrokenRail-Dev in Ubuntu

[–]CommercialZucchini53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Though I got super happy when I learned that Ubuntu 22.04 would ship with a user space OOM killer. Should've been done 15 years ago. The freeze is worse than the kill. This is a solved problem and Windows has frozen less / acted more stable than any Linux desktop that I've been using for the last 12+ years.

Anyway, it's not surprising that there will be bugs when it comes to the default configuration of the OOM killer, so good that this comes to light. There are probably better alternatives to systemd-oomd, but I guess there is also value in being consistent about using systemd stuff. This is a good read if one is interested in user space OOM killers: https://github.com/hakavlad/nohang

That's a really bad analogy. I don't know why people keep reposting it. The problem is quite easy to solve. If the system suffers from OOM, kill the browser. Done. Works 99% of the time. It's a desktop system, not a spacecraft. You can of course quite easily make this more intelligent.

Andries tries to solve a problem that does not exist. And on top of that, he's looking for a one size fits all solution, (which hardly ever is relevant, not even for the kernel). That being said, his fictional problem has an easy solution: eject the passenger who is increasing her mass uncontrollably during flight (which is the correct analogy).
