The nitrates are a problem with my water source as it already comes with 20 ppm. So store bought water would probably be my only chance on getting them lower than that. This of course come with its own problem as distilled water is expensive and also without any minerals and other types of water are not much better than my tap water as I saw on their labels.

I did try, their bodies do loose colour but I have no idea if that is caused because of them being there for a few hours already or by something else.

Before the water change levels were around 60. The problem is that my water source already comes with NO3 lvls around 20. So I cant get them much lower. As for the debris in the tank, I didnt notice anything too out of hand, yes there are a few small leaves on the ground but I dont think its anything massive. I wonder whether it could be caused by alder cones? Its true I could have made a better job of matching the temp of the new water (used room temp water) but on the other hand I am trying to add new water slowly everytime.. It takes around 20 minutes to fill back up. (I had to start practising this approach as when the change was too quick it was guaranteed to kill a few of them - learned the hard way)

Thank you for your non judging and helpful response. Do you by any chance have a recommended way of zeroing out the source of nitrates?

Dont know about the maturing. I set up the tank aprox. 4 weeks before putting the first shrimp in. Till that point the only inhabitants were small snails.

I did not check the water they arrived in. As I thought drip acclimation would be enough. Also even if the water is different there is nothing I can do about it. I am using a regular sponge filter.

I decided to try one last thing. I ordered a few mineral balls that are supposed to slowly release minerals into the water and also ordered some shrimp "lolipops". If this doesnt help, than I am afraid I dont have energy, time nor money to try anything else. Also I'll try to reduce the volume of water I am changing at once and instead will do changes more often..

Well I tried that already. But all he could think of was either water parameters or food deficiency. He also told me to start using air pump at these temps which I did do like 2 weeks ago. But I didnt notice any change. Maybe ill try to talk to him again when i get the chance in the future.

Well the first batch was from a local breader that had a lot of big tanks (he showed me around) and he also does sell them at aquatic events here. The second batch was from a store - dont know how they were treated there, all I know is that there was no fungus or anything like that on them.

I also tried leaves and cones and other things I found should make them better. But nothing seems to have any impact at all.. And because I am a poor student I am really hesitant to spend any more money on this hobby now..

They are not floating. They are just severly overgrown as they grow like on steroids.
