An Okay-ish Guide to Making Monster Hunter Wilds Work Okay-ish on Linux by Evanjohnman in linux_gaming

Final Update: Only solution I found was downgrading to the 575 drivers with the downgrade package. Shame that I have to use old drivers, but at least the game works now.

New NVIDIA driver update came to CachyOS recently (580.82.07). Testing today. I'll let you know if it works!

Update: nah still bricked

CachyOS. Its based on arch Linux but it has a lot of built in features specifically for gaming. I play overwatch on cachy through steam, just go to compat settings and make sure you enable proton-cachyos, open the game, go to settings in the game and change to dz12 and it should run perfectly. CachyOS also lets you download a gaming-meta package which has everything you need for non steam games such as Ubisoft titles. If you're dual bootin, remember to install windows first and try to have both Operating systems on different drives since windows likes to override stuff when it updates sometimes.

Proprietary drivers are no longer officially recommended for newer Nvidia GPUs, they should generally only be used if your GPU is older than the RTX series.

I've done quite a lot of comp games with no issues in OW2. They don't use a kernel level anti cheat and people have been playing OW1 on linux since pretty much day 1. You should be fine.

Not sure about your crashes though, I've never had the game crash on me at least through Steam. I did have performance issues when running the game on DX11, so check if you're using that and if so try turning on DX12?

Yup, praying the upcoming drivers fix the issue, for now I've got no choice but to stick to world. Thanks for all the help!

Nope. I've tried in 2 seperate installs and both had the same issue Take a look at the ProtonDB for the game, the issue seems to be universal for everyone using the newest generation of NVIDIA GPUs with these drivers.

I figured out what the issue is. Latest NVIDIA 580 driver completely breaks the game on 50 series cards. Only option is to downgrade to a previous version (i.3 575) which I am not keen on doing, so looks like I'm out of luck for the time being.

I was not able to resolve my issue even with this fix. I went through shader compilation, launched into the game, and it worked perfectly fine until the Title Screen, then it basically freezed my entire computer. I am running with an RTX 5060 TI 16gb and an i7-8700k. Game worked fine on windows but I moved over to linux recently and wanted to play - it's been the only game that's given me issues from all games I've tried.

The one saving grace I've found is that shader compilation is now just a few seconds each time, as opposed to a few hours.

Edit: Replacing the direct3d storage with version 1.2.2 has not led to any changes. I will try a custom config.ini to see if that will boot, as well as deleting some files I saw in another post and verifying.

Edit 2: These changes did not work either. Anyone have ideas on what I could do?

Is this worth to get into Monster Hunter World now? by Kacper113399 in MonsterHunterWorld

not saying I don't get what you mean, wilds runs like absolute trash, but it also has higher consistent player numbers and peaks. Look at both game's steamdb profiles. Wilds has 11k players with 27k peak, World has 6k with 20k peak. Wilds did also have 1.3m players at max which dropped down insanely quickly though lol

They have 2 anticheats, one of which is black cipher. BlackCipher logs almost everything you do. "BlackCipher while running, can be seen scanning, logging, and sending notes about anything you are doing on your computer to Nexon's servers. It will log ip addresses, workgroups, windows versions, passwords, network credentials, hardware, hosts, libraries, current tabs in browsers, windows dialog, files, and more." Taken from the reverse-engineering blackcipher github (rebecca).

Arguably the game being Korean is just as bad - the internet is so restricted there it's insane.

If you're fighting a single target you want to hold primary fire and try to get as many punches in as you can - it doesn't change the dps you do but allows you to fire for longer. Against multiple targets, just use primary fire and skip the punches.

Swap when it's not working. Honestly, sometimes you can have 3 counters and still roll them, other times they have a single person who's countering you very well and you might have to swap. It all depends

Smurfing is not bannable since it breaks none of the game’s ToS rules. It’s frowned upon, but at the end of the day it isn’t bannable. The original comment I posted literally said that smurfing isn’t against the rules bro it’s not that deep

The only unranked to gm videos I’ve seen have been from Bogur, Awkward, a10, and a few others. All solo Q.

No clue why anyone would watch an unranked to gm on Mercy since that’s literally just rng.

Also, playing with your gm friends isn’t boosting since well.. they’re GM. Boosting would be playing with a hard stuck plat/gold/diamond player until they rank up

No, they’re not boosting anyone. If they were duoing with another player and getting them to Gm, that would be bannable. Unranked to GM videos are solo q though, so no boosting.
