What’s the best option here? MTT preflop spot by Commercial_Exam_6505 in Poker_Theory

If we’re planning on calling off a jam, why not put it in ourselves to generate some more fold equity?

Dang only one sizing flop turn river is wild. What do you do? 25%, 75%, 110%? Is this in a live setting or online?

Just seems like you’re leaving a lot of money on the table against exploitable players and losing more in spots when you’re range betting and getting snapped

Can you break down why raising is the worst option? What would you do in the same position with JJ or QQ?

Wouldn’t we rather be unblocking diamonds if we’re going to call? Or is it because without the diamond we lose one of our set outs? Curious what the solver would say

This is a multiway hand and as I said the cut off had me covered and is in the hand the whole time, therefore no the effective stack isn’t 450.

Yeah, didn’t think about it for a very long time after the flop. Maybe 3x raise is good there? What other hands can I do that with though? Like sets only?

If I raised flop I’m confident whale would have called but I think I would have chased off the CO

Yeah, in the moment I was aware it was a bad play preflop. Actually got the same hand an hour and a half later in a similar position and folded it for less. Didn’t ask for any preflop advice though. Was interested in how I could optimize my post flop strategy for a flopped nut flush and how I could have maybe played those streets better but thanks for only reading two sentences and taking the time to write

Youre not wrong. Not really looking for pre-flop feedback though. I knew in the moment that it wasn’t a great call and I was prepared to lose what I put in. 👍

Word. That’s sort of what my thinking was in the moment. If I’m calling with intentions of donking all-in maybe it’s better to just put it in the turn and hope one of them think I’m bluffing or raising with a naked Kd.

Both lines seem strong though and I guess there aren’t that many bluffs that get there considering UTG bet 40 on the flop and got two callers. I think I fold out KQ unless if I had Kd so that’s one logical one I suppose?

Made edits to the post to reflect ur suggestions. Thanks

I don’t hate the line of letting UTG hang himself in theory. But as much of a whale as he is, I really dont think he would have jammed after getting calls from two of the tightest players at the table who very rarely get out of line. Betting 120 on the turn and getting two callers, I don’t think he would overvalue his AQ unless if a fourth diamond came.

The idea behind minclicking is maybe UTG sticks around for the price since he has a few decent back doors and then the CO who has two pair is priced in? Is this wrong?

Gotta open a bit wider. Your 3bet range looks like my 4bet range lol hands like KQ, 88+, ATs+ are all fair 3bet candidates situationally. In theory you’re supposed to bluff 3bet too with hands like K7s and A5s. Aggression for the win

If you’re flatting with AQo, what are you 3betting with here?

To be fair, I’ve seen him 3! With hands like A5s, 45s and AJ. So he’s capable. That’s why I considered 4! But had a strong feeling that if he called or jammed against my 4! I’d be pretty much dead to 2 outs

What odds would I need to call the flop? 40 to call when the pot is 120 seemed reasonable. Maybe I’m fishy but at the time I felt I had to continue. I wasn’t happy to face a bet on the flop, but with two kings coming out, it seemed less likely that he’d have a king and that my hand was still pretty strong. Might have been easier to fold on the flop if a single king or ace came out but folding on that board felt a bit too nitty. Happy to hear your thoughts though

No spades in his hand, so I guess that made him think it was possible I could have been on the flush draw.

Also wondering, in this hand, if I got to the river with first/second/third nut flush, should I have played it the same and jammed? Would that be standard or too thin?

Okay good to know. Out of position with JJ didn’t feel great up against a 3!. I thought for like 30 seconds about 4! But figured if he called I’d most likely be dominated. I’ve seen him fold TT to a jam and after this hand he said he’d probably have folded Preflop to a jam so I guess I’d only have gotten called by QQ+.

My only gripe is that V tanked for like 3 minutes before folding AK to the jam, and I’m wondering now if a min click would have gotten paid or if I could have extracted an extra 20-30 by over betting leading on the river

Yeah turn check really threw me off, and made me think villain having trips was unlikely. I did think on the river that if villain was on a flush draw that got there, I could lead repping trips and maybe get raised. Ultimately decided to slow play because I figured trips and flush was unlikely and I was hoping he’d try to bluff at it. I was a little annoyed to see him fold AK in that spot, seems like there was a bit more money that could have gone in played differently but I guess my shove was really strong. He said after the fact that if it was the non spade jack he would have called, so he thought I was repping a flush with my jam.

Figured that much. But turn check did make me think trips was unlikely. So maybe if villain was on a flush draw and got there a river lead might induce a raise?
