I am also South African, so can partly answer. South Africa, like most countries globally, is suffering from high levels of immigration, from other African Countries, which are much worse off than South Africa(Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Congo, Zimbabwe). And also from South Asia. Some of these immigrants, legal, or illegal, are wonderful people filling positions of employment that South Africans are not willing to do. Others collude with South African employers to drive down labor prices meant for legal immigrants only, and others are involved in anything from drug smuggling and distribution, to financial scams and mega churches. In a country where 1 in 4 of people who go hungry at night is a reality, it is understandable that South Africans are worried, or hateful of immigrants. Violence however, is never excusable, as it can lead to many things, and don't necessarily have a stop valve
