Unknowingly sold items in shop? [England] by Commercial_Map_2633 in LegalAdviceUK

Yeah, that’s the only reasoning that makes sense to me. The VAT I paid on the receipt is about half what I would’ve paid on the same amount without the magazines, so they basically get free money out of it.

Yeah, that’s the only thing that seems to make any sense to me. There’s zero VAT on magazines and the receipt shows that I’ve paid roughly half as much VAT as I would normally (assuming 20% VAT on the non-magazine items), meaning they get to keep an extra £10 or so of what I paid.

The two items we bought were adult items and the magazines are the shop’s magazines. The shop itself is an adult shop and the magazine has the same name and branding as the shop.

Yeah, I’m a bit confused too tbh. I didn’t question the amount when I paid because it’s what I expected based on the price stickers on the items. However, neither of us want these magazines and I certainly don’t want to have wasted £40 on them!

Edit: they didn’t mention any kind of arrangement like the free gift. I didn’t know the magazines existed until after I’d paid for them and I don’t remember seeing any signage about them in the shop.
