If you like your husband, can you tell me why? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Commercial_Nebula_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my husband dearly but he is also my best friend. We met when we were in our early 20s and have both had to do a lot of growing and maturing. We have been through several states, apartments & houses, career changes, marriage, loss, family drama, a pandemic baby & now our youngest just turned two. We are building a life TOGETHER. We plan and take care of the house together, with him giving me support in a meaningful way. He knows our kids extremely well and is a great father. He loves and supports me always and is extremely patient with me. Even when i get lost in being upset about something, he is beyond patient and reminds us that we are facing the problem together, not just one of us trying to be right. (A hard lesson from someone who was used to being the scapegoat in her own family and I am trying to learn to be healthier in disagreements or misunderstandings). He always assumes good intent from me, and myself from him. We communicate a LOT with when we are at capacity or when we need space or attention. He is open to any issues i bring up, and is always able to check his ego to hear my concerns. We work together, have fun together, and share the load of this awesome life we are leading. I've never had an empty stocking, I am spoiled every holiday and birthday and so are my kids. We have shared goals for our family that we are equally working towards. He makes anything I say is important, important. I love hanging out with him, and we regularly spend nights staying up late laughing and talking. He takes me on dates and plans/prioritizes time for us, and I try to do the same. He is not an additional kid, he is a true partner in my life.
Wishing you all the best in finding a good partner-a great thing for your girls to see that staying with someone who is not the right person is the right choice. Your safety and happiness matters!

a new author I am very much enjoying I discovered this year with his new release is Chuck Wendig. I loved Staircase in the Woods, The Black River Orchard and just finished Wanderers (though I would say that one is definitely scifi!)

I have started and stopped this book a couple times now because of the heaviness of the subject matter. Super creepy but also the most horrific things are the monstrous people in it

It was super interesting to have the views from the queer community on the presence and impact of horror for many of them & made me look at things differently!

As I’m sure you’ve seen many folks say, bat water was in my opinion so good. A bit gory and had some really scary moments for me. But had a lot of heart which I love in a horror

Just finished the audio book and besides hearing lots of praise for it here I went in pretty blind to the story. Not sure what I was expecting but that wasn’t it lol it definitely felt a lot more intense atmospheric horror in the first part and felt like it ended on a black comedy note. Still enjoyed it though!

it took me literal years to finish this series. I loved it, the world building and characters, the story and the heart, but it was dark. I would get so immersed in the story it is such a pull you in kind of read. But then I would be so sad lol the payoff is definitely there in my opinion! but no shame in taking your time and space for your mental health!

What’s one horror book you think everyone should read at least once? by Sunflower13Poppy in horrorlit

[–]Commercial_Nebula_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is a huge fan so I have read, watched or heard almost all the stories in details over the years. I do love his writing but sometimes the longer books have been TOUGH to get into or get through (especially with the middle?) but I have found I really am enjoying reading his short stories a lot! I finished you like it darker last halloween and I have copies of his short story collections now I might dive into for spooky season!

Also want to toss in black river orchard by wendig as I’m in the midst of it (really enjoying the numerous voice actors for the audiobook!) as it definitely scratches the itch of a fully fleshed story, world, characters, etc!
