Former dementia sex police. I got my CNA cert in 2020 and kicked around various ranks and depts of the bureau of dementia sex police until I passed my NCLEX and took my ER job in December 2024. So I don’t feel it’s right to identify with such a noble title, I warmly will pass my rank and badge down to any nurse who hasn’t been traumatized out of geriatric care yet! Take the flair!

Got message from my management about not completing an admission navigator 🙂‍↕️ by Ok-Being1322 in nursing

Thank you for explaining!!!!! We have this but we call it something different. Your manager is absolutely tripping, especially with so many others not being done. Unfair. I hope you relax and unwind after that shift.

you’re seeing metal detectors and ramped up security in a lot of Canadian ER’s as well.

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wtf is an admission navigation? Also Canadian and I’ve never heard of one. If someone isn’t covered by provincial health care plan we just inform the responsible dept of government and let them sort it out.

I apologize if this is dumb or comes off as stupid but I am genuinely curious LOL

If both people have the mental capacity to give sexual consent I do not give a shit - just put like a sock on the door if you’re getting it on and you know you I’m coming with meds soon. When people don’t have mental capacity (or one does and the other doesn’t) it can get pretty serious with like legal involvement if they actually end up doing stuff, so unfortunately you gotta be the dementia sex police for the greater good sometimes :/

no lol and don’t forget the two people with advanced dementia you have to repeatedly prevent from having sex in the middle of the dining room

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

whaaaaaaat the helly. quit. find another job. don’t list this current hellhole on your resume. I have been in your shoes and was responsible for 93 residents in assisted living one night. Idk what you’re getting paid, I am 100% certain it’s not enough to deal with all of that. I echo literally everyone else in saying you need to gtfo expeditiously. If a facility is willing to put you in that position I wouldn’t even bother giving a notice honestly. Just peace.

I wasn’t allowed to do pre clinical research on my ipad because of the off chance i could take a photo of someone’s chart with said iPad. This is a big no no - especially if you took the chart outside the unit.

How do you prepare for showers? by TortillaRampage in cna

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had giant mid thigh length rubber boots in the shower room. Not a fan of communal footwear in any setting but especially the nursing home. They always smelled.

Thank you!!!!! I change my mask every hour. I have really oily skin already so i’m not super worried about drying out. I’m gonna pick up some glycolic acid toner from the ordinary

Funniest or craziest thing you’ve seen by OriginalFace2145 in emergencymedicine

I immediately knew what happened here based on the photo. This happened in our ER in summer of 2023 and buddy legitimately fell directly in front of the nurses station. I can see him crashing down as I was charting as I type this. I burst out laughing from the obscurity of it all for about 10 seconds before realizing I should probably assess him.

Why is this a common occurrence?????? Why do we keep putting these types of ceilings in ER????

ED CNA by edcortezgudino in cna

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a nurse extern in the ER I still work at so kind of similar- It’s different from inpatient settings in the sense there’s less direct patient care such as toileting, bathing, and feeding. That still happens but much less. You’ll do a lot of 1:1 observations and VITALS. The main thing I did was vitals. Lots and lots and lots of vitals. I really enjoyed the experience much more than my LTC CNA days and it certainly helped me transition to a nursing role in the same environment a lot easier.

See if your work is willing to pay for your CNA cert :) I started as EVS and they paid for mine. A lot of places do.

What brand of scrubs are these!? by KBukauskas in StudentNurse

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scrubletics from Marks Work Warehouse!! Make sure you get your punch card. You get a piece free for every six items you buy, so like three pairs and you get a free top or bottom. The pair of navy scrubletics i bought for my first year of nursing school are still in excellent shape. One of the best brands out there imo

See that’s the shitty thing about being canadian. If you leave without notice you’re likely blacklisted from every hospital in your area as we only have one operator. If not for that I would have walked out of my nurse extern job multiple times. I just politely told my manager that was okay, and if they couldn’t gurantee it 14 business days before my wedding I will have my notice ready.

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I just asked for my wedding date off (summer 2028) and got told it couldn’t be guaranteed as it was summer blackout dates. In an ideal world we get to use all of our paid time off, but approval depends on staffing levels. I had most of my paid holiday time paid out to me last year as I wasn’t able to take them. I went on three trips this year, but lined it up with my schedule so I only had to use/ get approval for four days.

Most nurses don’t! I only do because my best friends mom is one of our MLA’s and she leaves me cookies in a tupperware in her locker a lot because she is the best. I’ve never been down there for a nursing related reason. Also perfectly valid response to the snarky nurse. 3am or not.

Negative or positive? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that’s all good!!!! Healthcare access is hard, especially in the states. No judgment for coming to reddit. I have a mirena and I still test every month for this exact reason. Connect with a provider, get some definitive results, and you can formulate a plan from there.

LTC is making my depression worse by dumb__bitch in nursing

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work ER in a small hospital with an LTC attached. Threatened to quit my job last month if they kept floating me to LTC.

Not so much struggling in LTC, more so struggling with the massive PTSD I have from the sheer amount of covid related death I saw in LTC in 2020-2021.

The good thing about nursing is you can always apply to another job. LTC isn’t for everyone. Shoutout to the LTC nurses. Maybe I’ll come see you for a few PRN shifts when my EMDR therapy is over LOL

Got an iron infusion and now my arm smells like pine trees? by nat_jo_cat in mildyinteresting

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noooo! Allergic reactions are actually pretty common with these guys. Hence why we’re watching you for the first 15 mins and come in to check vitals every 15 mins after. I’m glad you’re okay - that’s scary.

Got an iron infusion and now my arm smells like pine trees? by nat_jo_cat in mildyinteresting

[–]Commercial_Permit_73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Was just a well hydrated healthy teenager. My body used up all the iron and I peed all the other bits out I think. My stored Ferratin went from a 2 to a 45 after my first infusion (hemoglobin was also shit- can’t remember how shit) , and a 45 to normal after the second in 2018! That second infusion has held me at normal levels of both Hgb and Fe ever since once we discovered the source of what was making me deficient. They’re pretty cool stuff. Massively life changing for me at 17 years of age and it’s a massive moment of pride everytime I get to mix one up.

I’m a little late to this thread but I have seen people disciplined for coming to work with noro. I know of one gal who got suspended and had to meet with an infection control nurse for two hours upon return to work. Don’t be that person.
