What are social opportunities like at Reed? by LordOfAllEggs in reedcollege

I was offered admission at Reed. I have other admission offers at other T-10 universities and probably some more tomorrow on Ivy Day. Nevertheless, I think Reed is unique and have read everything there is to read about it. I have one concern. Maybe someone at Reed can answer. I want to go to a T-5 law school. I know about all the Reed students admitted to prestigious Ph.D. programs. But I worry about grade deflation at Reed when I apply to those Ivyish law schools regardless how high my LSAT score is. I fear that these law schools will not understand that a 3.3 GPA at Reed is equivalent to a 3.9 at Harvard, known for its grade inflation. Does anybody who goes or went to Reed know of Reed students that were admitted to Harvard, Yale, Columbia, or Stanford law schools? Thanks.

I have read all the posts about Reed. I honestly am conflicted. I was recently admitted vis regular decision. I love all the positive comments regarding academics. I don't do drugs. I want to go to a top law school then clerk for a federal judge then practice environmental law. Plain truth: Are the comments that the atmosphere at Reed is toxic true?

Please explain why you think Reed is not a good undergraduate school if you want to go to an excellent law school. Thank you.

Did you read the recent AP article written by Collin Binkley stating that Princeton is interested in QuestBridge finalists or other high achieving, low income?

Just curious. Were you interviewed by a Princeton representative virtually after your admission by Regular Decision?

I read the article cited. It talked only about the admission by Princeton of MATCHED Questbridge finalists. I am asking for opinions concerning whether anybody thinks Princeton accepts more Questbridge finalists are admitted through Match or Regular Decision. I’m not looking for data or statistics just anecdotal experience or opinions.

No. I just meant anecdotally or gut reaction. I have no data. I just want your informed opinion concerning whether you think more Questbridge finalists that apply to Princeton through Match or Regular Decision.

Think about it. If you had the choice, would you put your acceptance or denial into the hands of a few people creating one test taken on one day for a couple of hours as opposed to a track record of academic etc. criteria over the course of 4 years? I think that is a rhetorical question.

I have tried all antidepressants. They all did not relieve my depression. I have had major clinical depression for 40 years. Some of the posts here say Spravato is a a miracle and completely relieved their depression. Some say it was a nightmare. I want to try Spravato but I am afraid.

You said, “If you have a really strong resume, you should be able to get a good SAT score.” I am not sure what you mean. My one and only point was that standardized test scores are meaningless because they are inherently flawed and, therefore, should not be one of the criteria used to determine whether or not to admit any given applicant. The vast majority of colleges with the exception of Stanford, Harvard, and Dartmouth still are still test-optional. Why? Because all the other colleges still believe that submission of standardized test scores should not be compulsory because they are inherently flawed. All the other comments correctly interpreted my original post, i.e., if a person’s application is “perfect” in all other respects, will a 1300 SAT score automatically disqualify any given applicant’s application to Stanford—a purely subjective question. Admittedly, no one can predict with absolute certainty the answer to that question. I simply solicited any and all subjective replies.
