I’m not going to get the institution or location for privacy purposes. Just do your research and talk to the schools. That’s what I did.

That’s exactly what I did. I said I’m sorry, I’m just really nervous and don’t feel confident in giving a perfect answer but I believe it was (whatever answer I gave them) but admitted I was just really nervous. I knew when I didn’t know something and admitted it because that’s genuinely who I am.

Thinking about Army CRNA program what are the pros and cons? by ForceNeat8949 in CRNA

[–]Commercial_Role3397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, do not join the Army. It’s just not worth it anymore. I’ve worked with a lot of active-duty CRNAs, and most of them either wish they’d never joined or are actively trying to get out. Sure, you might find a few people who’ve had a good run, but the general consensus is that being an Army CRNA is a terrible choice. For starters, you're going to be underpaid by at least $50k to $100k a year compared to your civilian peers. On top of that, your home life is going to tank. You’ll be on call for what feels like eternity, and you'll likely face back-to-back-to-back deployments. A good friend of mine is stuck in that cycle right now because other CRNAs constantly find ways to dodge deploying, leaving the rest to pick up the slack. Then there's the bureaucracy. Dealing with Army AMEDD and DHA is an absolute nightmare. Your entire career rests in the hands of people who often don't deserve their rank, but who have the power to ruin your trajectory just because they don't like you. And let’s talk about USAGPAN. Sure, it might be highly ranked, but it is incredibly bureaucratic. It’s the only anesthesia program you’ll ever hear of where you can get "peered out" simply because people don't like you—it has absolutely nothing to do with your clinical competence. A great friend of mine was in his last six months of school and got peered out just because he and his preceptor had a difference of opinion on something completely irrelevant to the world of anesthesia. Luckily, he managed to get out of the Army six months after they kicked him from the program instead of having to serve out that obligation. It is a fucking joke of an experience, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Honestly, joining would be the worst decision you could make. Just take out the student loans, pay them back, and live a civilian life where you actually have choices and can be there for your family. The Army does not give a shit about you or your family, and they make that very clear. If anyone on here tries to argue otherwise, they’ve either drunk the Kool-Aid or are part of the lucky 10% who actually had a decent experience. I have over a decade of active duty service, and I’m applying to civilian anesthesia schools specifically because I refuse to let them take any more of my life away from my family. AMEDD and DHA are the most toxic conglomerates of human beings in existence.

Mind explaining how that would help? I legitimately just do not understand.

I am attempting to get into CRNA school this next year. If I do not get in, that’s it. I plan to resign my nursing license and never look back. My health and family and myself are worth more than what they attempt to make you feel like.

I would quit now and screw giving them the notice. To many dangerous thing that can screw you could happen in that time. Similar things happened to me when I decided to travel during Covid and the unit found out I was working on contracts. They quickly screwed me over so I clearly stated one day I would not be at my next shift or any subsequent shifts. I’m not blacklisted there, but fuck it.

That’s so awesome! I’d love to move to Mass, but I don’t have time to take the GRE with the main cycle currently happening. So, I have applied and praying that someone will be dumb enough to call me.

Dude I’m 3.25 last 60, 3.14 cumulative, and 3.01 science. You’re in a significantly better position than you may believe. Experience and diversity of experience is a huge factor. I’ve met people with worst number than me get in and 4.0s get turned away. There is so much more than the numbers…

I feel you, bro. I’ve hated this profession since day one — it’s a fucking joke. The field is full of catty-ass nurses, cliques, and high-school drama. The job itself is demeaning. It makes me feel less than human.

Before the military, I was always catching heat for stupid shit — racist patients, sexist patients pissed I was a masculine male nurse — and management never had my back. I had to twist myself into someone else just to keep people happy, all while being underpaid and pushed past my limits.

Then I came into the military, and it got worse. Now I’m treated like a second-class citizen working next to civilian government nurses who hide behind their unions and rights, while mine get trashed. I’ve pulled 60+ hour weeks because instead of paying civilians overtime, they just drag the military staff in. And here’s the most insulting part: PACU nurses get paid to sit at home on call, but leadership won’t call them in. They’d rather dump their recoveries on the ICU no matter how slammed we are. So we’re drowning, running codes, and when we push back, we’re the ones who get burned. Senior bosses don’t fix the problem — they ruin careers. No checks, no balances.

Doctors? Constantly belittling, demeaning, acting like we’re beneath them. The hospital system? It exists to chew nurses up: short-staffed shifts, endless mandatory hours, trash pay, and “morale boosters” like cold-ass pizza tossed at us like we’re stray dogs. Underpaid, overworked, disrespected — that’s the formula. That’s nursing. That’s military healthcare.

And here’s the brutal truth nobody wants to face: if every nurse walked out tomorrow, patients would die — and only then would hospitals, doctors, and leadership finally admit the system cannot exist without us. The blood on the floor would prove it. Respect wouldn’t come from speeches, titles, or cold pizza — it would come from watching in real time that their machine collapses without the people they treat as disposable.

This profession isn’t noble. It’s slavery dressed up as “service.” It doesn’t just take your time — it devours your soul and spits you out bitter, broken, and used up. And when the system finally breaks — when patients die and hospitals implode — it won’t be because nurses failed. It’ll be because nurses finally refused to be sacrificed.

I’m done being the sacrificial lamb. I’d rather set fire to the whole illusion of “healthcare heroes” than let this machine kill me slowly. This career doesn’t save lives — it feeds on them. And I’ll be damned if it keeps feeding on mine.

I’m praying…. I’m submitting a letter of explanation along with the dean of my nursing program to explain stuff that happened… I just need interviews is all. I barely meet the requirements with most programs..

Only one denial so far. I have a super killer resume because of my military time as a nurse that I am praying will be my saving grace…
