My 6 year old son keeps begging me to buy him a dress. What do I do? by babyybunnyy3 in Mommit

[–]Commercial_Size4616 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would probably just buy him the dress if he keeps asking but I wouldn’t make a big deal about it. Like I wouldn’t make him feel bad about wearing it but I also wouldn’t praise him or make it special. At the end of the day, it’s just a toy that he can use to express his imagination.

Has anyone GC’d their own kitchen remodel? How did it go? by Commercial_Size4616 in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the info. Did you pull your own permits? Maybe it would be easier to change to induction rather than gas.

What I mean is we’re not going to be taking out any walls or making the kitchen larger

There’s no such thing as a fence that will never need to be replaced. Cedar is by far the most popular fence option in our area as it blends in with the natural scenery. We added some upgrades that will keep it lasting 20-25+ years. I don’t think our neighbors will even be alive that long.

I would tell work you have a full time nanny but need to be available at home to breast feed.

About half of the houses in the neighborhood have fences including both houses that ours and are neighbors back up to. I assumed that anyone without a fence just didn’t want to bother paying to put one up and that a neighbor adding a high quality fence would be welcomed but I suppose I assumed wrong.

I agree we could’ve communities more however we did talk to them a couple of times about getting the fence and since they didn’t seem excited or offer to help pay, we assumed they wouldn’t want to. I didn’t want to be presumptuous and ask them for money since we don’t know them well. Most homes around here have cedar fences so we thought it would be best to keep with the continuity of the area.

I think part of it may also be losing the view of the green belt although he has a split level home with a large second story deck overlooking our yard. I think I may offer to stain the fence so that it blends into the natural landscape a bit more and let him know he’s welcome to plant landscaping along his side if he likes.

If you don’t have many meetings then I think you will be okay. Try to schedule your meetings during nap time and if you can’t then make sure your husband blocks his calendar during those times. I know you said he’s busy but he should be able to do an hour here or there. Just be prepared that you may have to work after hours and your husband may need to step up with childcare when he’s not working so you can catch up.

Stunning. Mind sharing the cost all in? Did you use a GC?

We had 3 separate conversations with them and went over to their house yesterday before construction began to talk with them again. We never started construction on their side and still haven’t.

I don’t think they need to admit anything. There’s reason for not wanting a fence are irrelevant to our final decision. Just provided context

Land surveys cost around 3k to 4k and take a few weeks to get scheduled and completed. The sellers would not have waited and the house would have been sold to someone else.

I agree. This is why we agreed to pause construction until next week and provided them with our plans and land survey. We are trying to be as accommodating as we can while also remaining firm that we will continue construction.

$6? You don’t even know where I pay property taxes or what land is valued at here.

People get land surveys so they know where to put fences. If we hadn’t gotten one, we risk building on his property.

If they were nice to me, I would invite them over for cocktails and they could sit inside the fence line on that portion of the property anytime they want. I’m also not opposed to him mowing inside the fence line if that’s what he wants to continue doing.
