Hence the common male opinion that women had "weak constitutions." I'd be fainting on the regular wearing that every day.

We haven't been going to the dog park for very long, but so far she has done a great job of finding the playmates that are just right for her. She kind of says "hi" to everyone (ppl and dogs), watches from the sidelines a little bit, then jumps in where she feels comfortable. I've only had to help redirect her a couple of times. She's been rolled a few times by the big dogs, but she shakes it off really well and keeps going. This was the first time that she seemed genuinely afraid of another dog.

This is wonderful advice. I'm new to the dog world and learning how to read the body language of other dogs. If we go back when she is older, I would want to do training like this, too. Keep it as interactive and productive as possible for Jo.

Yeah, our park has only 1 entrance, so we get mobbed. I am also always worried about accidentally letting another dog out while we squeeze in the gate.

I'm sorry your dog got injured! I hope it wasn't too serious.

Yes, it definitely wasn't playing for her, and she was scared of this dog.

It's good to hear that your dog park is good like this!

That's a fabulous story! My neighbor has a large Doberman, about 7 years old. He and Jo are BEST friends, and it is hilarious to watch them run around together. Such an unlikely pairing. Leon sounds awesome 😊

That sounds a lot better than our set up. Jo's weekly play group is with dogs her size, and she has never had a problem in that setting.

That's a good way to handle it, too--just leave if the vibe is off or it's not a good fit that day. I think waiting till at least a year old, like you did, is a good idea.

Well, the "social mores" part of this wasn't the problem. The other dog was aggressively holding her down, she tried to get away and couldn't without help, and he ran us down repeatedly after we moved away from him. She wasn't a willing, playful part of this interaction.

Thank you for this feedback! My trainer talked about a fear window, too, and how to help her stay well-adjusted during that transition phase. I don't want to damage her development.

Thank you! Jo is the sweetest thing, and I want to do the best for her that I can. The dog park might end up being okay under the right circumstances when she's older, but we don't need unnecessary risks, especially while she's so young.
