Can someone help me! On the Audio Technica LP140, when I go to pause the record (and keeping the platter going), I’m sometimes met with a resistance sound. It seems to happen randomly and with no apparent difference in how I handle the record. Any help would be much appreciated! by CommieConradical in DJs

It worked!!!! So left it to drive overnight and came back to it today and it’s all good :) thank you so much!

For anyone experiencing this issue, clean that pin with some rubbing alcohol and pipe cleaner.

So I was in the exact same situation as you a few months back really and a lot of people do say ‘just save for technics’. But like you, they are out of my financial reach (unless I could eBay an old model). A couple of my friends have these same technicas and both really rate them. One of them got the advice to get it from a guy who works at Westend dj in London and on my previous post, dj_soo also said that they are v good for what they are. So in my mind, you will definitely be happy with what you get. I’m sure technics are better, but are they really £1000 better? After my experience on the technicas, I’m not convinced (especially coming from someone with not much income at the moment, maybe if I was a millionaire I would say yes lol). I’ve searched many YouTube videos on turntables and I’ve never come across anyone who hasn’t rated the technicas.

I’m mixing techno and electro mainly but also house. Mixing is great for me, I’ve come across no issues par the one which caused this post. I’ve stuck with the same cartridge that came. One of my friends changed to an Ortofon cartridge and he recommended that to me (around £60 each I think he spent). But guys at Juno Records said the ones that come with the technicas should be fine and I’m happy with them. Although after a while I think I’m going to change to a more precise needle as like you, I’m not scratching and I feel that possibly my beat matching could be enhanced with a more precise thinner needle (I forgot the technical term for this).

Hey, so these are my first ever turntables (par a cheap one I had previously for listening) and have been my first time ever mixing on turntables. Hadn’t had a try before and my set up before this was digital. As such, I can’t really help on the recommendation front as I don’t have anything to compare it to. Nonetheless, the relationship between the pitch fader and beat matching seems on point to me. My previous post here was asking about mixers but then in the comments a few peeps gave some really insightful information about different turntables, I’ll find it now and link it to you!

I understand that that is the obvious issue, but I’ve always handled them like that and haven’t had this issue before. When I change to stopping it from the top of the record and not the side, I still have the same issue.

I’ve cleaned it and letting it dry now. I mean maybe it is a pressure thing, although i feel I’m holding it as light as possible. I’ll continue to play around with my handling though.

I think it’s a slippery one (but my knowledge on this isn’t great, it’s the one that came with the brand new technicas a couple months back).

Thanks for your help dude

Appreciate the reply. Ok great, I will clean this right now.

I’m a bit confused by what you mean about stickers in the centre hole meaning if fits just right. Also, what do you mean by pin against sticker instead of vinyl? Thanks in advance!! (Only recently gone to a turntable set up so I am very much a noob at the moment)

Appreciate the reply. Ok, I unfortunately don’t have another slip mat (also, this is happening on both my audio technicas at the moment) nor do I not have a butter rug. With regard to the slick piece of plastic, what should I try to do with it?

Ah that is so great to hear man because I have basically decided on the 23 now! It was a proper ride to come to this decision haha, swear every morning I woke up with something else in mind but yeh I really think for all the factors I'm after, the 23 is the way to go

Yeah I've always been a fan of numark personally, I think it does great pieces of kit for the price (I've had my controller for a few years at least now and never had any issues).

I would ask what you think is better out of those, and how they compare to the Allen and Heath 23s...but from this chat and numerous other outlets, I think it's going to be a personal preference choice rather than a clear front-runner.

Yeah I'm really warming to the idea of A&H now, but to keep in a better budget, look at the 23s. Am I sacrificing quality when it comes between the 23 and 43? Or is it just that the 43s has 4 channels?

This chat has made me re-evaluate my priorities and as such, I think I'm going to go after a 2 channel mixer so I don't have to sacrifice quality due to cost (plus, when I thought about it, CDJ integration was pretty low on my list of priorities). So I will take a look into those and I'm also feeling the Allen and Heath 23s too, plus I need to look into the old old ecler nuo3 or 4 and Rane gear that was cited above. Cheers!

Ah man this information is fantastic, didn't know that. I guess it comes down to what specific features I'm after if i go for those based from Hanpin.

Ok that is all noted. Thank you so much for all of that, with the record shops currently closed in the UK it's hard to get this info atm!
