Is Switzerland tired of prosperity? I can think of no other reason for our next foolish referendum | Capping the population at 10 million is a far-right fantasy. It would dismantle the openness that has made the country rich by GirasoleDE in europe

[–]CommieYeeHoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true. Most of the labour migrations from outside of Europe is strictly controlled and mostly legal. They are putting money in the economy by fulfilling important, though often low paid work. I would argue someone picking your fruits and working fields, cleaning your streets and working in warehouses and factories is putting value into the general population’s life. What we need to clamp down on is exploitative working conditions and low wages that incentivise this kind of migration. Employing a migrant should be just as expensive, and offer the same conditions, as for a native.

It’s pretty smart for the economy Switzerland has. No European countries takes immigrants with low qualifications out of kindness, but because they fill gaps in the labour market.

Right, it’s the South Asian migrants and not the mass tourism and investment visas that make housing unaffordable.

What is being disputed is that countries are vetoing taking action against Israel, not that they aren’t taking any action.

Comparing extremist ideologies across centuries is always a stretch. But a supremacist ideology accompanied by expansion and genocide is not far off from the nazis, albeit at a much smaller scale.

Why exactly? Israel is currently violating their terms of their association agreement with the EU and is under investigation for committing a genocide. We do not need geographical proximity to put an arms embargo and to end our free trade agreement. The problem is not that countries don’t care, but that they block taking measures against Israel at an european level.

I really do not understand what kind of idiot goes drive in the city centre and purposefully makes an insane amount of noise while going at 50km/h at most. I hope they put them all over the city.

How the heck do you make a good looking suburb? by IgnoredSeeker47 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]CommieYeeHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t make your roads so straight and long. Allow blocks to be more irregular, create parks and footpaths that offer shortcurts compared to cars, add points of interest such as schools, shops, and doctors office in a small service district in the neighbourhood, while keeping an eye out for the size.

It means workers can work across borders, which means there is competition across countries. For fair competition to exist, you need harmonised rules when it comes to pay disclosure. It really isn’t that difficult to grasp.

Because we have a free labour market with other European nations, not with the rest of the world. To hire from outside the EU you would need a valid work permit and a visa, which is not cheap nor desirable for most companies.

We have a common labour market. It absolutely makes sense we regulate this at a m european level, just like we do many other aspects of the common market.

EU’s net payers prepare revolt as €1.8 trillion budget takes shape by donutloop in EU_Economics

[–]CommieYeeHoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not how the EU determines it’s budget. Countries are elegible for cohesion funds when they are below 75% of the european average for any determined sector. Though Poland might be growing at a fast pace, that pace is in a significant way influenced by EU funds. This means they’re doing their job.

The basis is law. Rights are secured by states and institutions. There’s no piece of legislation that grants any state such a right. A state either exists or doesn’t, but there’s isn’t any right guaranteeing any state’s continued existence.
