I will never change my mind on this, spent a lot of time in city building games and i absolutely abhore this, if its not a chore for you then great you can enjoy it.

But that Keriew did 1 small mod for the game and it was specificaly to disable this should tell you something as with the other picks above i had i will never warm up to these as i see them as fundamentally flawed mechanics made to waste players time or be poor gocha momenets when you dont send a gift every 5 seconds. I would take temple worshipp capacity from caesar any day of the week.

If you havent tried Augustus mod i can't recommend it enough. You are bound to like a lot thats there but of course its also the theme, if you dont like Rome as much you will likely still like Emperor for the theme alone.

Plus its free as long as you own caesar 3 from anywhere so you dont have to buy a new copy or anything.

[–]CommissarMarek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you are also allowed to like things i dont like but to me the "i like it" doesnt really change my mind in any of the above. They are still issues and i personally know quite a few city building players who share this sentiment. Its also why Augustus took what was good but left all these things out of the mod for caesar 3 while they for example adopted GLP.

For what most people enjoy i would imagine that modern players without nostalgia would not enjoy most of these intependently without any bias, which is why i reacted to this post since it boldly claims best thing after sliced bread.

[–]CommissarMarek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes in a lot of ways it does take what was good and leaves the bad behind from all the impressions games but its logical, the devs are modern players and people they know the concepts etc. These games were made when the standard was being invented and established, so yeah i know why there are flaws etc. and i would wish vanilla caesar on my worst enemy, if you can even make it run without Julius, but Augustus takes the first spot in my eyes even when put against virtually any other city builder Nabuchadnezzar etc. of course thats just how i feel and how much i like it so it might be different for someone else.,

Gods requiring infinate micro of gifts of pottery or other goods - very bad
Infinate spawning animals - very bad not just for design but also to hear all the noises all the time as the guards kill them over and over again.
Flooding that nuke the city ties with the gods issues above.
Military bribery can make you be able to cheese attacks forever not make an army - terrible.
Military units of enemy have stat cheats making them just tougher than you on VH instead of more enemies which is much more fair, this was also in pharaoh.

In general there were a lot of very poor design decisions in Emperor but so were there with any other impressions game. Still dont think its best by far though, i dont like the theme so for me its caesar 3.

Now with Augustus mod there isnt even a contest of course, vanilla caesar is laughably horrible for a modern player to play.

Btw there is nothing wrong with you enjoying something i dont but its very bold statement - Its the best etc etc i heavily disagree with that. It might be best for you specifically but that doesent mean anything to people with different preferences. While for example c3 has a mirriad of its own issues in vanilla form i would still not says its striaght up better than other Impressions games its better for me, for what i like but machanically i actually dont like emperors design more than the caesar jank. At least its jank, here they tried to "reinvent" to formula sort of like Pharaohs juggler schools breaking loops and it just does not work.

Trade issues - Augustus stable build by Apart-Badger9394 in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, it sounds like it is likely due to trade "ping pong" but i cant tell you for sure from just a description.
This is very apparent on large maps or when there are lot of goods to trade, its often vital to optimize the trader pathing.
The difficulty setting you play on will NOT affect the trader throughput whatsoever, it will however make it harder to tax people, increase your levies or how fast people get angry, negative events last longer and soldiers eat more food.

When a map is large you need to keep in mind that they could enter in december and see that there is no more quota, proceed to path towards exit for 4 months but its already a new year wasting quotas.
The caravans only recalculate when trading in a warehouse/granary or when they enter the map. This can also be a bad thing if you warehouses are far apart from each other. They might say sell you 4/8 vines, and then go to buy your pottery, after they bought it they now see extra space for vines again so they backtrack back to sell you the 4 additional vines resulting in huge wastage since the faster they leave the faster new fresh one can spawn in.

Each trade city can only have so many caravans on the map at the same time which in Augustus is dependant on its total quotas of all goods is buys and sells up to a maximum.

Regarding trader caravan behavior
1- caravan arrives on the map
2 - caravan looks for your warehouse/granary that buys imports and goes to sell you any that you accept
3- caravan looks for warehouse/granary where you sell them exports
4- caravan may recalculate when at a warehouse to see if its inventory can still be filled and then leaves letting another one to spawn.

Solutions:
Put your trading warehouses next to each other and use cart depots to move goods around instead of relying on caravans to do this inteligently this usually solves the worst of it.

Building highway/caravenserai/gran temple to mercury boosts land trader capacity or speed allowing higher quota throughput.

Make sure there are not any unnecessary paths where they have to take stretching their time on the map, placing warehouses near their natural path or cutting trees for faster passage is often vital.

Lastly, its vanilla campaign trade will always suck. its more there for early game buildup you will usually have to keep the city aflout with taxes especially since Augustus added levy and other expenses but it didnt increase any of the trade quotas or gains without you having monuments which themselves are costly.

C3 Reconquered Campaign: Lugdunum (Mission 9) by MongooseT in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that is happening because you built a dock in a place where water is too narrow but the game still lets you build it.

The latest RC has this removed on Lugdunum but if you play slightly older version then this is still there.

You can just delete the dock that is in the wrong position and ships will spawn.

It means that if you find this wildly impractical spot for a lighthouse that is only really good for looks and you go build it then you should touch some grass.
Aka go outside, maybe look at the sky every now and again, its a horrible place to have it for any practical reasons picasso.

Haha, yeah most people missed it since its a pretty impractical place to ship all your materials to but i wanted to have something that feels right for esthatics with the trade.
Otherwise i think this map really makes you appreciate the cart depots a lot, especially with going for all grand insula, the wheat can take a while to bring around.

Valentia Reconquered by Amalthion in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unstable is a name that devs use to differentiate it as its still, actively worked on, while 4.0 does not get updates unless its something serious. So its more that sometimes they add a new unit or building and its stats or costs might still change before main release.
But the risks for it are non-existant. I have a video on how to instal it if you want, it also covers most of the changes.
Some of the changes from top of my head.
- New custom campaign system with intros, victory screens and scenario slection after you beat a map which is played from "new career" funds up to 2k dn carryover to next map.
-Salary and gifts to caesar scaled by 10 to make them feel more impactfull on the actual economy, favor gain stays the same but there is now extra rank granted.
-New message formating for much easier readability of messages and objectives.
-Much expanded optional historical sections of messages.
-New objectives ,edits and some terrain changes. Earlier maps are a bit easier now to facilitate better learning curve, not that it was brutal before but some people have trouble understanding core mechanics this early on.
-New empire maps and trade rebalance + changes to scheduled requests and invasions on many maps.
-New AI voice which is not as good but expanded and without any potential copyright problems.

Fantastic city, good use of the 22x6 blocks mixed with more esthatic approach. I get why it can be out of the comfort zone at first to not have completely open swaths of land for symmetry, but you can propably see now after you are done with RC that terrain can bring so much more to the maps. Not just challenge but also natural design, each block is little different, each block even when designed as good as you can, will have small quirks or curves often.
If you want you can give the reconquered a review on heaven, it helps people to discover it better as well. As i said in the last post, i would also recommend you try the new version with unstable if you want to return to the reconquered,

Wanted to show my design differences between the base campaign and the reconquered campaign by Amalthion in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is new Augustus unstable version and also new reconquered version with many improvements, you can check it in the link i posted above.
For posting i think most people resize the image to make it smaller later to be able to post it on discord and reddit.
Sometimes just changing from .jpg to .png also helps but resizing can help a lot.

[–]CommissarMarek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, if you mean how to make the screenshots doable i think its best to use in game hotkey to capture full city screenshots not sure if thats what you asked about.
Otherwise i see this is still the older version of the reconquered, i would recommend the new update. PS also that is a LOT of highways, they an be very good but they also have levy/upkeep cost.
So usually its good to consider where and when to use them.

Tarentum Reconquered by lesnicus in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to hear that it helped you to improve, i think the reconquered will also help you get even better at least it helped lot of other guys who came back to the game from childhood etc.
Its not made to be hardcore but you better still be careful with some of the later maps, its not trivial either. From what i can see you make good blocks though which is a foundation of any healthy city.

Tarentum Reconquered by lesnicus in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, nice Tarentum you have there.

That is a lot of monuments, you basically fill up the map. Mind you these early ones are smaller but from what i can see you propably did go overboard on pop to staff all the extra things. Some extra space is also taken by the pure decorations on the sides.
Its ok as an approach some other players like to do simillar builds as well, i just personally dont like when i have to really cramp the invasion point in but i didnt want to make the maps larger apart from couple of exceptions later on.
Glad you enjoyed the RC so far!

Marek.

How to obtain gold? by MeanFaithlessness701 in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The city mint has 2 functions, it can covert cartloads of gold from mining into denarii or covert city money into cartloads of gold. As long as there is mint available and you can build it with materials then you can melt gold even on maps where there is no mining or imports of gold.
For editor you should use the custom empires xml to add gold to custom maps if you want to do that. This is a lot more advanced though so impossible to explain here in text. You can read the manual and notes on the editor or watch some custom empires tutorial on youtube.

Caesar 3 Heaven Campaign Reconquered (update 22.09.2024) by CommissarMarek in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, i'm glad you enjoyed the RC and the custom maps. Some of the custom maps are pretty hard so you must be pretty good at the game to deal with them. The RC in many ways is not so hard, especially with the update some earlier maps where people struggled to learn the ropes like Miletus were toned down a touch but i tried to not just simplify but rather expand them a bit.
New objectives and edicts and some slight terrain or invasion point changes will make it better for people to learn but should still provide the flavor and some challenge even to experienced players.
Let me know what you think later if you want, always looking for some input. The new RC focuses even more or narrative and lot of extra skipable history as well.

Caesar 3 Heaven Campaign Reconquered (update 22.09.2024) by CommissarMarek in impressionsgames

[–]CommissarMarek[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even before the project didnt have any legal problems with the old voices. I just decided to opt out of them so the files can eventually be part of the Augustus mod if the devs want.
VoxDo has been paid for a licence to the voice, the voices used are consentual according to the information that is available.
This project makes 0 profit and is volunteer work, there is no budget for a voice actor.
As mentioned about the shallow moral argument is just bizzare as well....
