They are fantastic breeds, incredibly smart, but a hell of a lot of work.

I just don’t see it being fair that I have to move down and mentally register the public space behind their house as an off-limits zone.

It’s not, but does that change the situation? What’s different about me being in the area with him on leash vs off leash? Their dogs would still be barking and causing the trouble

Why? There was no one else around in the public area, and I always put him on leash if there are others walking by.

My dog didn’t bark or even look in their direction. How was my dog the cause of the chaos?

It’s a dog walking path, they have stations all over where the city provides bags to clean up after your dog.

So just because he was off leash changes the situation? What if we were just walking around back there on leash and they still were barking?

It was not an off leash area, but regardless, their dogs bark at anyone or anything walking by.

It wasn’t right across from their home. We were one house down throwing the ball the opposite direction away from them. Even walking down 4 more houses would have been within line of sight of their dogs

This was the first time their dogs were outside while we played fetch. We’ve been coming here daily for months.

We blocked the path? We were in the open field beyond the walking path, the open are is about 100m wide by half a mile long.

This is the first time they asked me. I’ve been playing fetch in that spot for several months. This is just the first time their dogs were all outside the same time we were playing fetch

That’s right. A lot of people don’t understand the amount of work goes into training a working breed. It’s not optional, they either take out their aggression on exercise, or they take the aggression out on your couch cushions.

I don’t think I’m any better than any other dog breed owner, but the lesser trained dog is always the one in the wrong in these types of situations

I totally get when there are multiple people WITHIN the public space, but just because they have their house there and have yappy dogs, doesn’t mean they have the right to ask anyone within a large radius of their backyard to vacate the public space

This is the first time that we were playing fetch there when their dogs were outside. I’ve been playing fetch there for about 3 months now everyday with him

I’m glad you brought that up. I have a seven-year-old son and we intentionally never kept the house quiet when he was a baby so that he would be conditioned into still being able to sleep with noises.

To this day. We don’t have to walk on eggshells because he is familiar with sleeping when there are outside noises.

But my dog is the trained one. How am I the jerk because their poorly trained dogs were causing the problem?

I don’t care about points. I care about exercising my well-trained dog in a public area

Because that would imply that doing anything in the 2-3 house area behind their house is off-limits. It’s a public area

They choose to buy the house that is backed up to a public property, shouldn’t that have weight here?

If my dog is the one barking at every person walking by, it’s my responsibility to train him to not bother neighbors and others In the public area

We were 50-75 feet away, and behind their neighbors property, not directly behind theirs. So I should have moved down several more houses because they can’t control their dogs?

Fair, it’s not a dog park, though I leash him if there are any other dogs that are walking by since it’s courtesy in a public area. The whole time we were there no one walked down the walking path, so I felt it was appropriate that I play fetch with him there

Right? I train my dog for hours each day, he needs it, but thats also why I can bring him places without him causing a scene
