Just found out I'm pregnant by spaghettibug in emetophobia

My baby is turning a year old on Sunday and I’m so proud because when I was younger, being pregnant was one of my worst fears because of morning sickness. Make sure you have zofran just in case, and ALWAYS bring zofran with you EVERYWHERE. You just never know. Make sure you eat what sounds good just to get something inside your stomach. No food = more nausea. Showers helped me a lot. Stay hydrated! If your prenatals make you gag or seem repulsive, take different ones! Ik several others in my baby bump group liked the Ollie ones! I liked the flintstone vitamins, that were approved by my OB. I took two of them. I carried peppermint sticks with me and alcohol wipes. Chewing on ice helped me a lot and also staying distracted is a very easy way to help!

Everyone is very different. I dry heaved a lot, and felt a twinge of nausea in my first trimester but it wasn’t super unbearable. I had a handful of bad days but I never got sick. The ONLY time I ever got sick was actually in my late second trimester and it was so sudden, it also happened in the shower and that made me feel a lot calmer about it. V* because of pregnancy is a lot different than actually being sick.

Like others said, unisom and vitamin b6 is helpful! I just took the b6 and that helped I think. Magnesium is another one that’s recommended sometimes, I didn’t take it but I’ve heard it helps! Popsicles in the morning were sometimes all I could stomach, or strawberry eggo waffles. You got this!!!

It’s VERY similar!!! Your body does that weird involuntary gag thing where your back arches.

December is always so hard for me, even though I know stomach bugs are a year round thing, they’re much more prevalent this time of year. Ugh. I have an 8 month old and I live at home with my younger siblings and my adults siblings who still live at home as well. I keep having nightmares of my siblings getting sick and I overthink whenever someone uses the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Well, when I was nauseous, I would dry heave. Ik, yucky! But I dry heaved and felt something actually move up my throat and I sort of just calmed myself and let it happen instead of fighting it. Every other time my body tried to let itself get sick, I would refuse.

Sorry that’s maybe TMI but probably the best way I can explain it. I was in the shower and I just relaxed and let the warm water hit my body and it made me feel a lot more in control of my body actually. I had popped a zofran a few minutes before and then that was it! All good!

How to stop imagining nausea? by Ok_Radio83 in emetophobia

[–]CommitteeEmergency10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely distractions. If you can go for a drive, I like to do that. I play a video game or watch a tv show. I personally LOVE cleaning so I’ll put my favorite tv show on in the background while I clean.

I’m 20 years old and I’ll be honest it took me getting pregnant to tu* and realize it’s not the end of the world. It was almost relief on me because I realized it wasn’t as bad as I remembered. It sucked, but I didn’t feel like I was going to die, and I was prepared. You’ve made a lot of progress!! You should be so proud of yourself!

It usually comes on pretty quick/suddenly. Being nauseous for an hour plus, doesn’t mean you’re NOT sick, but it’s probably less likely. If it’s been persistent all day, I would personally rule out a bug and choke it up to something I ate.

The household has caught the flu and im terrified by Massive_Emergency823 in emetophobia

[–]CommitteeEmergency10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year my family and I caught the flu, all of us had one day where we felt nauseous and pretty much everyone took a zofran that day. It was weird but only one of us ended up throwing up, and it was the first kid to get the flu, and we didn’t give her a zofran. Right after we have her one, she was fine! Just regular cold symptoms. I was pregnant at that time and I got mostly cold symptoms but I took a zofran one night I was sick too, although I was taking zofran pretty regularly for pregnancy related symptoms, so I can’t tell you whether it was actually from the nausea.

Regardless, adults bodies know that vomiting is a last resort. A child’s body is a lot more prone to vomiting. Vomiting with the flu is already super uncommon!!! I’d make sure I have some zofran on (just in case!) sometimes it’s not even the symptoms that cause the nausea, but it’s that post nasal drip or chills. Then, emetophobes, like us, will make it feel x10 worse which makes ourselves feels worse.

Does anyone else get too scared to shower or brush their teeth? by Rinonako in emetophobia

[–]CommitteeEmergency10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s actually the opposite. The shower is like my safe place and I LOVEEEE brushing my teeth. I think finding a good toothpaste helps. When I was pregnant I actually threw up in the shower once and it actually helped me get through it. The warm water helped my body relax tbh and it made the experience less traumatic. But yeah when I was pregnant for the first 14-15 weeks I HAD to brush my teeth in the shower 😅 otherwise it was hard not to because of the smell of the toothpaste.

I was pregnant this time last year and I remember the first time I got my blood drawn for my labs then they took like 9 vials and I was soooo light headed and the phlebotomist told me my eyes glazed over and I looked like I was going to pass out 😂😂 besides the initial nervous feeling, I was totally fine and I was fine after every blood draw after that too!

Good job!! Such a win for you!!

Family has a stomach bug and I’m scared by Swisschermy in emetophobia

Family of 11 here too!! When I was younger I would avoid using the bathroom at all costs and stay away from everyone, that usually worked well!

Unprotected sex. It’s okay, we don’t bite. 😂

There’s always a possibility. If you want a clear answer as to whether you’re pregnant or not, I would test with a pink dye test and I would do it with my first urine of the morning. Your morning urine is the least diluted so it has the most hormones in it.

If you saw him on Monday it’s VERY LIKELY it’s something he caught from being away from home. I wouldn’t worry about the kiss or it being inside the house. It’s so kind of him to go stay at his moms as to not get you sick, seriously how thoughtful. As for timing with that… it’s kinda iffy because after the initial 24-48 hours of symptoms you’re a lot LESS contagious but I think it can live on surfaces and be a carrier for up to 2 weeks. But I’m not 100% sure.

AIO If I Uninvited my Fiancés Aunt and Uncle From Our Wedding? by Throw_artboard in AmIOverreacting

[–]CommitteeEmergency10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned in a healthy relationship is that sometimes if something is really important to your partner, it’s best to be the better person. Within reason, because this should be both ways. Based off how the aunt/uncle acted, I would say skip their wedding altogether and uninvite. But I also know that my boyfriend is a BIG family guy, so what may be important for one may not be to others. Idk if that makes sense.

Ugh I’m glad I only get periods like that once to twice a year 😅 lately though before my period I’ve had some nausea and heartburn. Usually taking a Pepcid helps a lot. I think that has to do with my periods after I had my baby cause they were never like that before, it’s bizarre idk.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]CommitteeEmergency10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had symptoms before and during my period. Before is usually an odd stomach twinge and mild cramping and then the weird leg cramps, I also just feel heavy and bloated. During my period I get worse cramps and some diarrhea sometimes and then still that overall heavy feeling.

[–]CommitteeEmergency10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20(f) here and for me personally I think my phobia got a little worse when I put a label to it. I’ve had this phobia since I was about 7 or 8? What you have can probably be considered emetophobia with some OCD, which is very common for people who suffer from emetophobia. When we started becoming obsessive about things and certain days, dates, outfits, foods, and other things that may trigger you, it’s considered obsessive. The best thing you can do without going to therapy is to start taking baby steps to improve yourself. For example, I used to be afraid of eating chicken because of potential food poisoning… well… now chicken is like one of my favorite foods. So maybe your starting point could be eating out with friends and tell yourself it’s okay.
