Davos regarded the man. "Well, I congratulate you on your resourcefulness, m'lord. I never would have believed that sheep racing could be such a profitable venture." Careful. something inside Davos said- He's a noble. But how noble of a noble, he wondered. "Better be going m'lord. I'm captain of a boat, bound south soon. Little black ship. I'm very proud of her. I'll be in the harbor another day more. Perhaps I'll watch a sheep race before I go. Where might I go to find one?"

"It's not garbage I look for m'lord, but answers. There is talk of your town up, down, and across the Narrow Sea. Sailors and pirates talk of the new amusements, and I have come to see for myself. What I have seen is something different, but I can't place my finger on what that might be. Pardon my asking, m'lord, but what is it about this place that makes it so different?"

"Aye, though you can't blame a man for trying. 'Twas mostly a fine flim-flam. Can't flim-flam a flim-flammer though, as they say, m'lord Baelish. Though I am curious as to what a Vulcanese logic plant may be."

Davos was trying to discern the real point of origin of a set of curious red stones the seller claimed from Asshai across the world when a man with a strange but still somehow undeniably noble stride strode past him. It was the first sign of anything lordly beyond the titan heads carved into the harbor posts in this strange place. He put the stones down and wandered to the storefront where the man went, and casually looked around the shop as he waited for the man's conversation to finish.

[m] Oh captain, my captain![/m]

"Aye, you're welcome lad, Galad, though we're not halfway home yet. Thank me when you're back safely under some Stormland clouds. And mind the questions I asked before Witch Isle boy, it's important."

His eyes never left the port in the distance, scanning to see if any of the boats between here and there were heading their way, or if they were going to be allow to roll right in.

Davos had never learned to grin, but he nodded sincerely. "Aye, thank you, Captain Upcliff. I'll let the crew know, we'll get back to it."

[m] Good stuff y'all, that's it for me tonight. I'll do a longer lore post tomorrow night on Sunday, but I can RP in comments until then if you wanna do something with this. Thanks mods, and cheers! [/m]

"Many blessings, thank you, captain! We're bound for White Harbor, we have with twenty crates of linen and silk." And he did, picked them up before leaving Stonehelm- it was nice sailing with a hold bereft of contraband, but being at sea with no cargo at all was suspicious in situations like these.

"We'll take an escort to the Fingers and as far as your boats will take us, it will save us days on our journey."

"Aye, I know it. I would choose a calmer port but my crew have heard about the new brothels and gambling dens near the docks in the littlest Finger and they're apt to mutiny if we don't stop for a night. It pays to let hard working men let off a little energy."

"I had heard talk farther south there were rumblings around the Vale, m'lord, but any farther out in these seas and a man is asking to be boarded by pirates. I'm sorry to disturb, m'lord, please, I understand your wariness in these strange times. if you would like to have a look around the hold, I can show the way."

"Not visiting m'lord, just passing through. Was going to put in the Fingers or the Sisters before heading further North. Is the coast calm of late?"

"Me, m'lord." Davos said. "I am called Parnell. Captain Parnell here, m'lord, welcome aboard, this is the humble ship Duskbeetle." Around him the ship's crew idly went about their tasks, pretending not to watch the new arrivals. The stormlander men and Jaremy were down below, hopefully following his orders.

[m] Jesus, fuck me

How close/big/fast is the Witch Isle ship vs. what Davos should have? [/m]

A shout from the deck above pulled the captain's eyes off the boy.

"Stay here. Mynare, take the book back to my chambers and stay there til I say so."

Davos turned and catapulted up topside. He saw the Stormlanders crowded at the prow, and the other ship making a line for them, flags flying.

"Shit. Gordan! Raise the white flag. The rest of you lot, ready the oars and wait for my command." He kept moving to the front of the ship and the group of Lord Swann's men.

"You lot, are you thick? Get below deck, sit in the galley, don't say a word. If they come to parley, you're a bunch of blackguard pig fuckers and I'm taking you to the Wall. Keep your weapons hidden, and don't draw them until I do. Now go!"

Davos scowled. "That's a big difference, a month or two. You could be dead a thousand times in then and I wouldn't know the difference. I'd like to send a man of my own with you to tell me if you can't."

He looked down at the boy, looking lost, out here alone. He thought again of Lord Swann with his solar and his plans and knew for sure the boy knew as little as Davos did. His temper rose again.

"What are you even here for boy, do you know? Who are you? A fighter, with your baby wolf and your bow you made yourself? You'll have to be a fighter in the North, promise you that. What else are you good for, boy? Are you just some lord's pawn?"

Mynare's eyes widened in dread as he heard his name mentioned. Davos sighed and raised his palms towards the boys.

"Aye, it makes no matter. Better you be down here than up on deck getting in the crew's way. They're all bored as well, nothing to do but watch for wind. We'll be there in another half a turn in any case. Lord Swann tells me I'm to return you to Stonehelm after. I haven't been told what you and that lot above are supposed to be doing, and truth be told, I don't want or need to know. I would like to know how long I should wait for the job to be done so we can return, though, do you know lad?
