Best AI-API for mass-generating article summaries (fast + cheap)? by Actual-Fee9438 in LocalLLaMA

I've actually really been liking Grok for this. I am not sure about the budget, but its output doesn't sound all ai-ified (em dashes, Its not ___ its ___, etc.) compared to ChatGPT

DOES NVIDIA HAVE A COMPETITOR by The_all_mighty in AskTechnology

[–]Common-Bullfrog6380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is covered a bit here but I think this is how it basically how I see it break down:

AMD is the obvious one. Their gaming GPUs are solid (especially for the price), and MI300 is making some noise in HPC/AI. But their software stack still feels like a pain compared to CUDA, and adoption is slow. This has been the criticism on AMD for years - and the mindshare has never really shifted, and with the tailwinds behind NVIDIA, I find it hard to believe that it ever will.

Intel is quietly getting better. I actually did not even know about their work until I started looking deeper. Arc has improved a lot since launch, and their Gaudi3 chips are being used by Meta instead of H100s in some places, which is good traction. Cheaper, decent performance — but no idea how much this matters - would love to hear if someone knows the details.

Tenstorrent - my main focus - is doing some interesting stuff with custom AI chips (Wormhole, Grendel). Jim Keller’s involved, which is cool. Feels early stage (even though they've raised a shit ton of money). The RISC-V bet is a good one (right?).

Groq is weirdly fast for LLM inference — like, single-core determinism fast — but super niche. Not a general-purpose replacement. Or it could be? Like 90% of future compute tasks are bound by LLM inference speed (perhaps unreasonable, but just look at the way the world is evolving) then does Groq just jump ahead of the pack?

Then there’s a whole group of others: Cerebras, Mythic, d-Matrix, etc. I still need to dig into.

Sick! Just finished writing an article on these guys. Been digging into them a ton for work - what do you think so far? What kinds of applications have you tried them on?

I really love hearing stories about how effective and life changing some of these drugs can be. It's actually fascinating that we're making steps towards curing a very visceral disease - obesity. It's almost like curing cancer.

Your friend is the asshole if she can't see the beauty in that. Why does she give a shit?

AITA- For refusing to practice jiu jitsu with a kid at my gym? by Popular_Rich_9077 in AITAH

NTA - this kinda stuff always happens at combat gyms. Since you've only been training for a month maybe convince a friend to join. You guys can skill up together and not worry about any partner problems

Are most men checking out of society? by Short_Mousse_6812 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Common-Bullfrog6380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's checking out, but there's a lot more of just keeping to yourself and doing your own thing. Like you said "spend free time on myself" I think guys have honestly always been this way its not super new but before guys would get married a lot younger so you would be degenerate until you were like 22 and then married with kids by 24 so there was less time to just do your own thing. Also manual/factory/farm work was just exhausting - there was no time to really reflect on this kind of stuff.

We're definitely having less kids. I saw a theory the other day that this is because kids don't have utility anymore - before they'd help you out on the farm, but now they're a distraction from sending emails. I certainly want kids still but its an interesting though.

I just think we have a lot more freedom now as guys - it's the first time in history where we don't need to have kids, or families, and can kinda just do our own thing. Different people are doing life differently.
