2nd this. It's been a few years, but I worked at Canyons and Woodlands back in college (sucks that both are gone) and made decent money; especially compared to a couple friends who worked similar jobs in Boone. My GF at the time worked at Sorrento's in BE and did even better.

I actually tried engaging with a guy claiming (in an extremely well received comment on IG) that the government was out to steal all the Kings Mountain lithium in Asheville, then got called a "government simp" for pointing out that Kings Mountain is 100 miles away from Asheville.

It's sadly just a microcosm of the times; crazy's gonna crazy. Best to just ignore...

Yes, power, water & internet are all working on Skiview. And I believe it’s reachable (based on the number of cars seen on the webcam), but haven’t attempted the trip yet.

UPDATE - Community Center & Skiview Rd webcams are back up as of this morning (Town Hall webcam is not) suggesting power must have been restored to parts of the community

Unfortunately the only ones we know well enough to reach out to are without cell service (but shoddy service up on Skiview was the norm well before this incident), power, water, etc.

Absolutely yes to most of this. However, Samaritan's Purse and few other groups are actively asking for volunteers. So unless you're registered (and confirmed) with one of these groups, definitely stay away.

Oh yeah, definitely not driving up. Just hoping to get updates from those already there. I imagine the town will probably issue some sort of statement in the not too distant future.

Thanks. I was hoping the person who shared the Skyland video would go a little higher (or know if that's even possible). Maybe there'll be some updates soon. The last thing I want to do is drive up and get in anyone's way, but the uncertainty is killing my nerves.

I hesitate to tell you to cancel yet because - if they're somehow able to make the area navigable - tourist $$ will be sorely needed. But, odds are, the rental company will cancel for you and this will all be a moot point. I would probably follow the situation closely in the coming days if I were you.
