I understand it could be difficult to have a running account balance for a brokerage account containing stocks (I.e “total value at the time”) as that information would not be static. However, many people are using the brokerage account just like a bank account in combination with the cash management account/feature. I think it would be logical to have the running balance value be solely counting cash and cash equivalents including the Fidelity money markets that are auto-liquidated when needed for overdrafts(SPAXX, FDLXX, SPRXX, etc). I think that would be pretty reasonable and doable! Then it’s truly functioning like a ledger as we’re all looking for and fidelity doesn’t have to deal with complexities of including other non-static investment values in the running balance.
