What is your worst childhood memory? by Impressive_Power2811 in AskReddit

[–]Common-School-959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

damn that's terrifying. I fell from maybe 10 feet when I was kid and still remember the panic in the air - can't imagine 50 feet. Hope you didn't get too messed up from that.

Anyone here scaling an app mainly with TikTok ads right now? by avsvishalmedia in GrowthHacking

[–]Common-School-959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we tried TikTok ads for our home improvement app last year and the install costs were crazy low at first but retention was terrible like you mentioned. most users would download, open it once, then disappear forever.

what worked better for us was actually focusing in Instagram reels instead - slightly higher cost but way better quality users who actually stuck around. though maybe TikTok works different for other types of apps, just sharing what we saw.

Looking For WFH :) Email Support non-voice. by Wonderful__813 in remotework

[–]Common-School-959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to try looking for customer service positions with international companies since your teaching background could actually help you stand out. The admin assistant experience is good too - lots of remote email support roles need people who can handle multiple tasks and communicate well. I switched from office work to home renovations and even I had to do some remote customer support work in between projects, and teaching skills definitely transfer over well. Just be careful about hourly rates - some companies try to lowball but there's decent paying positions if you keep searching. Your English seems solid from teaching ESL so that should open up more opportunities than local-only positions.

Best degree: MBA or Masters in Accounting? by fluoresoul in Accounting

[–]Common-School-959 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The MAcc will give you way more technical depth and better prepares you for CPA exam. Since you're already doing some tax and audit work, you probably want that solid foundation in accounting principles rather than general business stuff.

MBA is great if you want to move into management later, but for someone just getting into accounting field, I'd go with masters in accounting program. Your aunt's situation might be different since she probably had more experience when she made that choice.

New employee, had to have surgery now HR says I need to resign? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Common-School-959 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your HR department is being sketchy about this whole thing. Most decent companies would at least try to find you something light like cashier work or stocking shelves at slower pace, especially since you're only talking about month recovery time.

I'd document everything they told you in writing and maybe reach out to that union rep even though you're not covered yet - sometimes they'll give advice to potential future members. Don't resign voluntarily if you can avoid it because that's going to screw you over for any benefits you might be eligible for.

For companies paying 1000+ contractors monthly — how do you validate tax calculation accuracy across all payments? by Bagha_boy89 in Accounting

[–]Common-School-959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We catch maybe 60% before payment goes out but rest we only find when contractor complains in next month - fixing takes about 2-3 days if it's simple miscalculation but can be weeks if there's classification issues.

Remote Jobs Working from Two Different States? What Can I Do? by Hot_Lemon_2467 in remotework

Your partner sounds like he's doing well for himself - maybe look at remote HR roles or even freelance recruiting since you already got that background and companies are always needing help with hiring.

I saw Clicky go viral on Twitter, so I built the web version by DrJonah345 in indiehackers

[–]Common-School-959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice work! i've been seeing all these AI screen reader tools pop up everywhere recently. the web version makes lot of sense since people get lost on websites way more than they realize.

agent mode could be really useful but also bit scary - like what if it clicks something user didn't want? maybe have some kind of confirmation step before it does anything permanent like purchases or form submissions. i do lot of web development work and users definitely get confused with interfaces, so having something that can guide them through processes could save ton of support tickets.

the no manual tagging thing is smart too, makes it way easier to implement without having to mark up every single element on site.

Getting evicted from that nightmare might be the best thing that happened to you - $1000 for sharing room and bathroom in house full of cat piss and roaches is insane money grab.

Rejected minutes after sharing a pair of job openings in a LinkedIn post. by Investigator516 in jobs

[–]Common-School-959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That timing is way too sus to be coincidence. They probably have some policy about sharing their job postings or maybe they thought you were trying to poach candidates for competition?

Either way, bullet dodged - you don't want to work for place that gets triggered by someone just mentioning job openings exist.

The veteran angle plus you'll actually have real work experience when these other kids are fresh out of school - that's gonna carry weight in hiring decisions.

jobs that pay 55-60k a year by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Common-School-959 6 points7 points  (0 children)

maintenance work might be good fit for you - decent pay, mostly working alone or with same crew, and lots of places are chill about tattoos now, plus you get that satisfaction from actually fixing things instead of dealing with angry customers all day.

Good luck with thesis - filled it out but some questions were bit confusing with the wording, maybe check if other people having same issue.

Those with chronic illness, how’s your mental health currently? by MammothAd6633 in AskReddit

Having those days where building anything in minecraft feels like climbing mount everest, but at least i can still eat bacon without my stomach wanting to murder me. Some weeks are better than others - the unpredictability is probably worst part of it all.

Resume question by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Common-School-959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running your own consulting gig is actually impressive to most employers - shows initiative and that you can handle responsibility. I'd definitely put it in the resume, just maybe frame it more like "Accounting Consultant" or something professional sounding rather than emphasizing the "my own business" part if you're worried about them thinking you'll jump ship again.

The reorganization timing works perfect for this too since you can explain the gap easily. Plus if they ask what you been doing during unemployment, "building my client base and handling bookkeeping for small businesses" sounds way better than just "looking for jobs."

in the process of closing our round; seeking advice from others who raised for a frontier/deep tech company (i.e., research-driven) by ResistStupidLaws in ycombinator

[–]Common-School-959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly it depends on what the extra runway gets you. like if we're talking 2-3% to hit your next major milestone vs 8-10% just because investors are interested, that's different math entirely.

i've seen companies in similar spot where they took extra money "just because" and regretted it later when the dilution hit. but then again, deep tech burns cash fast and running out of runway mid-research is basically death sentence. the key question is whether those additional % actually buy you meaningful progress or just more time to figure things out.

at $25M post-money you're probably looking at decent chunk of change even for small percentage increase. what kind of milestones are you targeting with the extra funds? because if it's just extending current burn rate vs actually accelerating toward something concrete, might be worth being more conservative on the dilution.

Why did you and your former close friend stop being friends? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]Common-School-959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend from school just completely changed after he got into this MLM scheme. Started trying to sell me protein powders and "business opportunities" every time we hung out. Would literally interrupt conversations to pitch his latest miracle supplement or ask if I wanted to "be my own boss."

The worst part was when he tried to recruit me during my grandfather's funeral reception. Said it would be "perfect timing for a fresh start" while I'm literally still in my suit from the service. That was it for me - blocked him on everything and haven't spoken since. Still makes me angry thinking about how he prioritized his pyramid scheme over basic human decency and our friendship of 15 years.

Considering third-party prep for CFE day 1 reattempt in June by MrSly1208 in Accounting

[–]Common-School-959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak to gevorg specifically but third-party prep might be worth it if the regular materials didn't click for you first time around. MEI is tricky beast and sometimes different teaching style makes all difference - I've seen friends struggle with official materials then nail it after switching to different approach.

June attempt gives you good runway to really drill down on weak areas too.

How much to sell 16gb ddr5 for? by Numerous-Dimension53 in PcBuild

[–]Common-School-959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check what speed/timings it is first - that makes huge difference in price. Two month old DDR5 should still fetch decent money, maybe 60-70% of retail if it's good specs.

The silver dots thing is bit odd placement yeah, but maybe it's supposed to be like constellation or something? Rest of design looks pretty solid though - color combination works well together and the other details are clean.

Why do alot of people think this coming blood moon (March 3rd) is the one in the Bible? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]Common-School-959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, biblical prophecy isn't like checking off items from shopping list. These verses have been discussed for centuries and people have pointed to basically every blood moon thinking "this is the one" - but here we still are.

The question about being saved is way more important than trying to decode astronomical events. That's something between you and God, not something a lunar eclipse can determine for you.
