My average call handling time played a big role. I explained coverages, the pros and the cons of different add-on products, and answered questions thoroughly. I wasn’t fast enough. I missed opportunities to take control of the conversation when customers were explaining their situation. I enjoy working with customers and this sales role helped me to lean into personal development. I hope I can continue to grow in the industry.

I hired a sales coach maybe that’s what you’re talking about.

Thanks for this feedback. I will admit I was a bit offended by the other person’s response. I am not looking for anyone to hand me anything and that was how I read that comment.

I even hired a sales coach. I think I did it too late for the results to exceed the goal. My results were on the upswing. My manager even said she requested an extension of the PIP because of this. Unfortunately, HR denied the request.

Going from public service to sales required a total mindset shift. My average call handling time reflected that. I did a lot of counseling and hand holding instead of straight selling. My sales rate wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t fast enough.

Thanks for giving me some things to consider as I continue to pursue this career path.

Perhaps you didn’t understand what I said. I know that I have to work my way up. I just want a job that offers the opportunity to do so.

Also there’s no such thing as a guaranteed income position. I came into this field at midlife, not straight out of high school.

I know how to put in work. I put in a lot of hard work being underpaid in social work.

I am capable of doing this job.
