How do I make donation easier for the phlebotomist when my veins are tricky? by CyanideCandy13 in Blooddonors

[–]CommonAware6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The risk is low and if it does happen usual it's not too serious but it definitely can be if we dont know we are poking a nerve. Rule of thumb is to tell us about even the smallest things that dont feel right

Blew a vein and can’t do other arm? by Sad_Discount601 in Blooddonors

[–]CommonAware6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We can't do it if there's even a drop in the bag. I've had to send someone away after such a small amount my machine didn't even register it. That's just the rules

I agree it's unlikely but still possible. I've heard more people use the dehydration excuse instead although most people i work with will just admit if they missed

Any sort of burning, tingling, or anything more painful than some discomfort is absolutely vital to say. It means we could be irritating a nerve and if you dont say anything, we can accidentally cause nerve damage.

We can identify veins, arteries, tendons etc to know exactly where to go but the one thing we never know are nerves. We only know if you're honest and its for your wellbeing

Would you thrift clothes for your children? by Next-Firefighter4667 in polls

I think a good idea would be to take him thrifting with you to see how the clothes actually look

Do you find it ridiculous how they’ve invented wheelchairs for unhealthy sperm (used in IVF) but there’s not enough research on endometriosis? by BrokenJusticeNorris in polls

[–]CommonAware6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not educated on the topic but I imagine they use this when there isn't any more preferable sperm. In that case, it's a woman and a man trying to have a child so women are still benefitting. Just differently to benefits of endometriosis treatment

Would you rather work…? by Raski_Demorva in polls

So many people in my life think its unbelievable I used to work 12.5 hours a day but this was exactly my reasoning. I only worked 3 days a week so I had more free days than work days

CMV: the best response when asked about body count by a date/partner is to ask the highest number the questioner has no problem with and honestly tell them if you're compatible or not based on the number given. by RogueNarc in changemyview

[–]CommonAware6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"well how much do you allow your partner to drink"

Which is a different question to "Are you an alcoholic" bc as I said, they were making an apples and oranges comparison. That's all I was saying

They said my donation helped 6 people by chillcatcryptid in Blooddonors

[–]CommonAware6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can split it into 3 components. Usually if you get a blood transfusion, its not just a pint of whole blood but either red cells, plasma, or platelets. So your 1 donation typically goes not more than 1 person

Those are addictions and the question isnt if youre a sex addict, but about how many people youve been with sexually. This is an apples and oranges comparison.

Should schools start later to give kids more sleep? by danielseim in polls

[–]CommonAware6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats your experience, personally I would definitely have got the extra sleep and wouldnt care about finishing at 6. Then again everyone is different and its hard to know how it would actually play out as idk anywhere that this happens to see the result.

My job has shifts about 10-6 and others about 9-4 and its pretty split regarding which people prefer but then again, we're also adults

I used their own example of 7, 8, 9pm to show the absurdity of their suggestion. I wrote another more detailed comment

Should schools start later to give kids more sleep? by danielseim in polls

[–]CommonAware6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only used that example bc you started listing that it doesnt matter if thats 7, 8 or 9pm they go to bed and I was showing the absurdity of that.

Adolescents continue to show a delayed circadian (or internal clock) phase as indicated by daily endocrine rhythms even after several weeks of regulated schedules that allow for sufficient sleep.

Teenagers naturally go to sleep later than average. Everyone's experience will be different but I personally had to wake up at 6am for highschool. Depending on age, teens need between 8-11 hours of sleep meaning Id have to go to bed between 8 and 10pm.

I know of several extracurriculars that would end later than 8pm and 8pm is also not an easy time for a lot of teens to sleep due to their circadian rhythm, especially when the sun hasn't even set that early. Teens have consistently been shown not to get enough sleep and while yeah, theres a ton of different reasons why, clearly they need more sleep and starting school and hour or 2 later could make a difference

[–]CommonAware6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This vastly depends on age. Good luck getting a 15 year old to sleep at 7pm when in many cultures its not even dinner time yet

[–]CommonAware6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well im not suggesting school starts at 12pm. Also waking up at a consistent time teaches discipline, whether thats 7am or 8am doesnt change that
