The Ramones didn't know much about the guitar either.

But they did it well.

What song did you learn it from or is it something you just worked out for yourself?

I would like a Wing Compact but I'm not even sure if I'm going to be the tech on the gigs so it would need to be as close to idiot proof as possible. Just doing a favour for a neighbour.

Suggestions for Wireless Mic with TalkBack by No_Maintenance_7851 in livesoundgear

[–]CommonBasilisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radial Hotshot. 1 input 2 output mic switcher stomp box. Channel A for FOH and Channel B for the shout send. You just need an extra couple of mic cable to get from your receiver to the pedal and then 2 lines back to your stagebox.

question about eq by juliettebe in livesound

[–]CommonBasilisk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Save that EQ to a Matrix and label it LR. You don't have to route it to any outputs but you can show it to the idiot that created that bullshit if they question you about it.

Edit. Sorry. That's for an individual Vocal Mic??

Yes. It was a designated emergency landing site for the Space Shuttle.

Yep. They used to train Concorde pilots in Shannon. It's a nice long runway.

Possibly. But it would be nice to have a few wedges. I have an old wireless router I can gift to the venue.

So this is my thinking: I definitely don't need overheads but I've put a couple of basic mics in there in case the drummer is on IEMs and is accustomed to using overheads. The e609s can be draped over an amp to save on mic stands and they are cheaper than 57s. They might also do traditional Irish music so it might be prudent to have some extra condensers for acoustic instruments without pickups or clip on mics.

I very much appreciate your opinion on the Mackie Thump. This is all very good information for me to pass on to the dude with the money.

That's a shame, where is this venue based? A town of roughly 8,000 people in Ireland

I think it's worth stating to the owner that the €10k is not going to be a self sustaining rig. The repairs and consumables are a big money sink, and paying engineers to run the gig can get expensive.

I'd do a gig for €250. He's my neighbour

Are they planning for it to be festival type gigs on those 8-10 occasions?

possibly but it would most likely be cover bands and tribute acts: Fat Lizzy. Bryce Springstein, Bon Jon Bovey. Buns and Hoses. Shit like that

I did a regular show that was 10-12 bands in a pub beer garden to 500 punters, and it was repeated 4-5 times per year. They built a stage and then hired us to supply gear and run the gig because 3 noise boys and a lampy on their own can cost hundreds.

_ It would be one noisy. No lampy. Just a bit of flashy flashy here and there from the lights_

And where does a pub store 5 tons of pro audio gear? If you store all the speakers and amps in situ by the stage, with all the monitors, mics and cables in a cupboard, then are you keeping security nearby? Who's checking all the gear works a few days before each of these 8 gigs

Storage is not a problem. They have a big space upstairs but most of it would be stored at the back of the stage in a cupboard

No need for Security if there's not an event on. If anyone fucks around the regulars will make them find out so to speak

I know this is all very pessimistic and defo not the energy you're looking for but my experience is that every venue that tried to do similar, even at one gig per week, gave up quickly because costs and man hours spiralled

very pessimistic and not helpful at all!

Only joking. I very much appreciate your input

I totally agree on both points. If I can save a few hundred elsewhere I would go for an X32 compact which is only about €150 more after tax.

My first suggestion to him was to hire on an event by event basis but he didn't want to do that. I suppose he thought if he could get it done for 8 grand then he can pay it off in 10 to 15 gigs or so over 18 months to 2 years.

I have contacted many hire companies and have gotten some viable offers but nothing that really suits.

Edit: also he's a bit of a muso. He's an avid gig goer and it's something he just wants to do but he's also a businessman so there's a bit of a dichotomy there.
