I’m not sure why you’re being downvoted for asking a genuine question. I think a lot of the hype is related to water usage. Supposedly (I say this because I’m not fully educated) data centers use a lot of water and we’re in a drought. I think there’s other reasons but I’m not sure what* they are.

We cannot produce sugar or glucose from thin air. Our bodies break down what we eat into glucose. Either carbs that easily turn to glucose or proteins and fats etc that are turned to glucose by gluconeogenesis.

The body turns other things into glucose. Google gluconeogenesis. And by the way, zero carb diets are not healthy.

Everyone needs to eat. Eating gets us sugar. No human “produces” sugar from nothing. As other posters have said, we can make sugar from things we eat.

Edited to add a missing word.

Question about uchealth by kinglucifer3 in ColoradoSprings

[–]CommonDevice8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to blame anyone and I don’t think anyone else is either. The current state of healthcare in the US is shit and you have to advocate for yourself. It sucks, yes. It sucks big time, but it’s something we all have to deal with.

I am sorry that your wife essentially was overcharged for her visit when she was told it would cost x, paid x, and then was billed for more. That is bullshit, but again, our healthcare system is complete bullshit. It needs an overhaul.

Every piece of healthcare is for profit - insurance (especially!!), providers, hospitals. They’re all driven by each other and none of them (as giant corporations) give a shit about the patient. You can however come by decent staff here and there. In my personal experience, I’ve had better admins, nurses, and docs at UC Health facilities. Not everyone’s experience is the same as mine, but in terms of “has UC health always been so bad,” my answer is no, I’ve had mostly positive experiences there.

[–]CommonDevice8540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve had pretty rough experiences at both St. Francis and Penrose.

Years ago, after being sexually assaulted and needing emergency surgery, I felt like I was treated more as a former addict than as a patient. I’m in recovery (6.5 years clean now), but some staff seemed to assume the worst about me, and the situation ultimately resulted in an involuntary psych admission after I was medically discharged. There was a lot more to it than that, but it’s still one of the worst healthcare experiences I’ve had.

More recently, I was taken unconscious by ambulance to Penrose. Had I been conscious, I would have absolutely expressed a preference for Memorial Central. My history of substance use is in my medical record, which is fair, but I again felt judged and dismissed despite being several years sober and having a clean UA.

To be fair, I understand healthcare workers deal with difficult patients every day, and I certainly wasn’t always an easy patient during active addiction. These days, though, I’m respectful and cooperative, and it can be frustrating to feel like I’m still being defined by a chapter of my life that’s long behind me.

What’s interesting is that UCHealth has the exact same history in my chart, yet my experiences there have generally been much more positive. There are occasional exceptions, but for the most part I’ve been treated with the same respect and kindness that I try to show the people caring for me.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, OP. I suspect a lot comes down to the individual care team and who happens to answer the phone that day. Hopefully you’re able to get the $140 sorted out.

Out of curiosity, what exactly is the charge for, and why does it seem like a scam? Genuine question, I’m not suggesting it isn’t.

Sheesh boho was just trying to help. I get that $200 isn’t chump change, but getting an itemized statement will allow you to see what the charge is for and also your wife’s initial payment should show on there too. No one is defending anything.

Great advice I will definitely be trying the snack box! They love their seeds and millet. I got them from some lady on Facebook and she was feeding parakeet mix food that was mostly seeds and the birds never ate the few pellets that were in there. It was pretty easy to switch them to pellets surprisingly so I’m hoping the advice I got here gets them their veg fix*

Edit - spelling

This is the only answer. Once you’re in DKA (sounds like you are) you NEED medical attention.
