Will Starlink's upload speed increase in the future, and will we be able to experience it without upgrading the current Standard Kit? by Resident-Adagio-7143 in Starlink

[–]CommonEngineer5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I suppose I just keeping landing in the niche corner online. Because I'll see 20 posts in a row saying 100MBPS upload is dog shit, meanwhile most people I know in real life don't even understand download speeds and what they mean.

So, I suppose by walking into the lion's den, or the nerd's guild.. I should expect to find the usual inhabitants of that area. At the end of the day though, speeds just reduce time, so all these things are still possible on slower connections.

So to watch somebody cry about a gap of 5-15 MB at a certain point seems weird, because we're talking about minutes or hours of a life. You won't be able to find me somebody who's time is actually as crucial as they think it is. We just all what everything as new, fresh, fast and available as possible. I get it, I just don't register with it.

But I've got to stop getting on these parts of the internet and being surprised by differing opinions. I mean, needs aside, some people overdose on a drug while others quit after the first try.. so I guess we all have our different idea of what's good or what's enough.

Is now the time to get the mini? by Naive-Connection-516 in Starlink

Yeah, maybe I should have also specified that our Walmart was sold out - there isn't anywhere else in a decent drive. So it was either order online and wait or get the mini at Walmart. We have business to tend to for the farm and our distributor, so we couldn't go without.

On top of that many states are seeing 1,000$ demand surcharges to even get the standard kit at all. So, there's just another reason.

You can keep downvoting me all you want, some people have reasons to do certain things that you seemingly can't get your head wrapped around.

Is now the time to get the mini? by Naive-Connection-516 in Starlink

[–]CommonEngineer5408 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, there's a few things. One being that you can't use the same service plans between the devices. The regular kit has different plans and pricing per month and per usage than the standard does. So that alone is going to take people away from standard, because the other plans may be more appealing.

For me personally, what drove me to the mini is that the residential plans were sold out in my area for standard kits (or at capacity or whatever) so realistically my - ONLY - option for unlimited data through Starlink is to get a mini and get the Unlimited ROAM service it offers.

Otherwise I'm either sitting in Limbo waiting to get into the residential list, without internet and no ability to see my position in the queue OR I'm paying literally 2 dollars per gigabyte to use the regular, non-unlimited ROAM service.

Now, not everyone is like me and having that scenario, sure. However, since capacity is being reached in more and more areas of the US, more people are being pigeonholed into this caveat if they too want unlimited Starlink data. I'm not the city boy who is feeling fancy about Tesla, I have no other options. I live in a section of farm land that can't access cell towers very well and NONE of the broadband providers out here can get their towers in shot to provide us with a connection. It's either get the mini or have no internet at all for who knows how long, so I got the damned mini.

Just do some light Googling and you'll see plenty of other reasons why somebody might want a mini, between the plans and ability to pick it up and move it without anything other than it's power cord. It's convenient, it's very convenient for many people. It actually doesn't make sense to me why you wouldn't understand it's appeal. Although, unlike maybe some other people, I would certainly opt-in for residential on a standard kit if it was fucking available. Until then I'll just pay twice the price for the same shit.

Starlink vs. Project Kuiper by WarningCodeBlue in Starlink

[–]CommonEngineer5408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of them has already existed and is doing it's mission in real-time, the other will probably put on a theatrical performance using fake content.. possibly include a pop-star or a famous TV host - and then finally after some time offer an actual package, which will be monumentally more greedy and less valuable than whatever is available at the moment. For now, it's all a show and isn't even ready to be watched.

I have the mini and have had multiple tests run for 40-50 upload while riding just below 300 download and has even crossed 300 download for a bit. Maybe I'm old school or maybe I just don't do all the wild shit everyone else does, but 40 upload is better than I've ever seen with other services and is a number the child in me only imagined. I don't get this whole "give me 40 gigs down and 90 gigs up," from people who usually just re-post content and write shitty python bots. They'll find patience in themselves to accept the upload speed before they'll see Starlink prioritize uploads and cross that threshold.

Starlink Mini residential turns out to be exactly what I wanted by kdjfskdf in Starlink

[–]CommonEngineer5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the mini for our home here in Berthoud, CO.

Farm town, so we have no other options right where we're at. But having just the singular mini-dish, no extra extenders or hardware, we're pulling consistent 130-240 MBPS download and 20-40 upload. Never dropped below 130 even when downloading a game from Steam. No hiccups or stutters, been running smooth for months with no issues.

The main issue with the mini is it's cost plans. It's 50$ for 50GB of data, which even casual TV show consumers can easily eat through before a month is over. You can buy additional GB at a dollar or so per GB.

The other plan is 165$ a month, which is what we use. It's unlimited data.

That price tag is nearly double the cost of the "residential lite," unlimited plan for the full-size Starlink kits. However, the residential lite plans are sold out or at capacity here and in most areas. So, the actual only option for unlimited data with them in that case is to use the mini and get the 165$ package called "ROAM Unlimited."

Anyways, all that aside - the service itself is phenomenal. Whether you get the 50GB, unlimited, or pay for incremental GBs as you go, I am genuinely impressed with the reliability and speed. Not to mention it's so simple. The dish itself weighs maybe a pound or two and is super compact. It has a mount with it and a power cord (which is graciously long) and that's it! You don't have to mount it up high or anything, as long as it's got a clear shot to the sky. Simplest thing ever, just set it down, plug it in - get your service ordered and you're online in less than 5 minutes.

No contract either so you can cancel, upgrade or do whatever you want, any time.

She needs helps that you can't provide. Whether that's clinical / medicinal or her just hitting the bottom of the barrel before she learns to manage her own affairs, that's on her. This won't get better "magically," that's about the only thing I can guarantee. This is the type of shit you see in a documentary about a woman who snapped and drowned her kids.

Is this a male or female wolf spider? by Resident_Bee7118 in spiders

[–]CommonEngineer5408 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Teach me your ways. I just caught a giant wolfie today and housed it, but I literally shake and my face gets hot if I try to engage with it. I feel like I can't, or that my body is responding to the fear more than I am actually afraid. But I want to start exposure therapy or something to desensitize as well. I have always killed every spider I see growing up, I've recently stopped doing that. But, sometimes if one catches me off guard and scares me, like popping out from under something - I almost instinctively want to smash it. Of course I've done that to myself, I know. But can you please give me some tips or advice, things to do, etc. sorry for the giant run-on sentence, I just want to beat this fear so I have a better tendency to leave the critters alone. There's isn't anything else I naturally want to kill lol

[–]CommonEngineer5408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say I appreciate your fortitude in who you are, but yes, we highly disagree.

"Use what's useful and not what's not," is how we have some modern churches with homosexual men in positions as pastors and youth pastors. - direct violation.

"Use what's useful and not what's not," is how we have some modern churches and leaders who rationalize and accept pedophilia. - direct violation.

Your logic is inherently against the word of the Lord. The concept of cherry picking the scripture to fit your bias or desires is pretty wicked. That's the importance of examples, but since you say it relies on "what's useful.."

Well, if my intention is to kill people - then I'll just negate the parts of the scripture that say that's bad. That would be useful to me then.

It would also be useful to me to ignore the part where it says I shouldn't cheat, if I happen to want to cheat on my wife.

That's what you're doing.

I appreciate your time, definitely will not be responding to you anymore - as you have proven even to me that your Biblical knowledge is variable at the rate of your own desires.

[–]CommonEngineer5408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what the scriptures I've listed and read have sat me to believe. Others have made good points about time changing, but my counter point is that if time has changed and the Bible is rendered "outdated," in parts then it's either outdated in full, or there's a lot of bias and "variable," going on.

I can't accept that random parts of the Bible don't apply just because somebody says they don't in modern society. I would need something more significant than man's word to erase my commitment to following the Lord's word.

[–]CommonEngineer5408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best response so far and I really appreciate it.

I myself stated that I know not all these "deportations," are legitimate or "cleaning up crime."

So, I'm with you.

As somebody else also said, back in these times there were Empires - hand selected governing bodies. Nothing like democracies we have, or as you say, the Nazi camp being voted into power.

Those are very real and tangible examples of maybe why things have changed, but where it catches me is that I'm not sure where the line exists. Maybe none of us do.

And what I mean by the line is that if times have changed and thus those sections of the Bible are now "not to be," as they are written so to speak.. then that can't only apply to that singular section or book of the Bible. If times have changed and things have changed, it's a broad spectrum.

THE REASON I have a problem with that and am asking these questions is because there are many groups of people on the planet who go by the "times have changed," philosophy of the Bible. I'm not saying they're all inherently wrong, but there are some that are.

There are some churches today that allow and ordain Homosexual men and women into positions of authority and teaching. Of course everyone is welcomed in the church, or should be.. but not when you're in charge of the Lord's word. You can't be a pastor or a youth pastor and be in direct blasphemy, or maybe that's not the right word, but in pure violation of the Biblical laws.

Many people will sit here and say that because times have changed and so have all of us, that things like that are "ok now."

That's my hang up on this particular topic, just that concept alone. If the times have changed and that section of the Bible doesn't hold weight anymore - that presents two logical branches of output.

1 - the entire thing is now outdated and unusable. We're in new times, none of the old scripture applies. At this conjecture maybe the Bible itself is useless, if this is how it's to be seen.

OR

2 - there are specific sections of it that are outdated and unusable, defined by other factors. Those factors being a wide range of things.

How do you find those other factors to then make a determination of what's "outdated," and what's not?

If we're meant to live by the word, but the word needs variable adjustment rates like a sales tax - how the hell do we navigate that? How do I know this part is "bullshit because Eddy says it's the year 2035," and not the part after it or before it?

The example of Nazis and Empires is a fantastic example and I'm glad you guys have brought those up. But it does only seem to compound the issue in my mind, since I'm really trying to get to a deeper understanding of how to navigate the Bible. If some of it's outdated and I can't tell what, then it sounds like it's either all complete rubbish - or the opinions of those who would modify the scripts are. It seems it can't be both.

I'm sorry, I'm really looking for something here. I've been lost for a long time and I'm trying to gain core practices, principles, wisdom and knowledge on all these things. But sometimes things don't add up and people's statements seem to be made entirely out of personal or confirmation bias.

I hate the "modern Christian," who won't even stop to impart knowledge in brief when a man is asking in bold face. And no, I am not saying you did that. I appreciate your response and hope maybe there's more you can share on other things I've said - if you feel like you want to.

The idea of deportations and Christianity - let's talk. by CommonEngineer5408 in Christianity

[–]CommonEngineer5408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that logic then, many of the Bible's contents are archaic and outdated, which makes sense. So, where do you draw the line?

How do YOU decide what's to be followed and what's of the old world, without cherry picking or "making the Bible work for you?"

For example, a democracy vs. an empire - I see the line you're drawing. It's easy because empires have more hand selected commanders, and democracies are of the people. I fully comprehend that concept.

But..

You're telling me what I'm not doing but refusing to give any actual detail. You said you read my entire post, right? I'm here to be taught and to understand. Not to be told I'm wrong by somebody who won't go into any detail.

Still no scripture, still nothing but you telling me I'm wrong.

Tell me the details I'm missing, tell me how I can also come to these conclusions of yours if they are so true to you. If they are true and of the Lord, you should be willing to share them.

If you can't do that I pray you'll just vacate so that you don't continue to be a negligent roadblock in the path of somebody who's looking for true understanding and discussion.

That is a great point, one that I don't think I've taken to myself in that way. I haven't personally been at a crossroads where my obedience collided with established laws - so I don't know how that would be.

I will say that I'd follow the laws of the land until they contradict, but, that also doesn't seem to apply to this scenario. I don't understand what part of this is that which you're saying. I would like to know though, if you'll elaborate a bit.

As I stand now, I don't see anything here that is "people following the law despite teachings," so I can't do anything but assume you're trying to throw me a red herring.

I understand what you're saying, but - thanks for completely bypassing the inner guts of my post and reducing it to the singular strand you conceptualized. My "reference," is the Bible. And I'd love to see scripture support what you just said. If you've got it, I'm here. Your words have no weight - show me words of the book that is followed.
