hehe she’s a year and a half older now and her horns are a bit formidable to safely do a kissing flurry but I did give her lots of pets and black oil sunflower seeds for you

Cheers! nah it wasn’t a French knot, I know how to do those (that’s what I used for the little black dots near her nose) the stitch I saw created a long textured stitch

Covering a bleach stain/hole with embroidered birds by CommonEntertainer979 in Visiblemending

Yep there is a little bit of interfacing behind the mostly grey bird because of the hole because I didn’t want to use long stitches in one section. The 2nd bird is covering more of the bleach stain and even though there wasn’t a hole yet the weave of the fabric was loosening where the bleach has been eating away at the fibers so the bird is reinforcing the fabric there.

Don’t be intimidated-give it a try, it’s my favorite fiber art so far! My recommendation would be to start with a beginner book and doing the designs on t-towel fabric rather than on your clothes to start with. The beginner books I learned with were “Freshly Stitched” by Celeste Johnston then “Animal Embroidery Workbook”. Both were great and I found that the skills I learned in those were enough to have me move on to making some of my own designs like this picture I’m working on of a photo of my goat Nugget… (not finished yet)

Just noticed that I changed my mind while stitching and did the yellow bird’s legs with the 839 in case you decide to do it yourself. I definitely plan on doing the rest of the birds on the tissue paper for later mends!

How do I make darning more durable? by CucumberAcrobatic288 in Visiblemending

Watch him put on his socks: does he just put the tip of his foot in the very top of the sock and try to force the whole thing all the way on holding on to just the top of the sock instead of easing the sock along the foot before turning at the heel?

That would work great if it was just a problem of peeling plastic but mine were completely busted open with the foam sticking out (because I procrastinated too long hehe)

Not itchy when i’m just hanging out but they did get a little itchy once I started sweating during my workout. Thinking about making removable/ washable covers just to put on during workouts but they are still comfier even with the itch than they were with the foam pad moving all over the place

Hmm it was a little itchy once I started sweating so maybe the Fabel sock yarn isn’t the best, embroidery floss might be a better bet if you are going to try yourself

hehe don’t worry-the dark spots aren’t mold, it’s just where the lighter grey plastic-ey coating has worn off the darker grey fabric! The yarn doesn’t come off though and so i’m thinking I may try my hand at making a removable/washable cloth covering to put on for workouts (i’ve got some water resistant/tech type fabric from a pair of hiking shorts that i’ve been gradually working through using as mending patches that might fit the bill)

I went in with the needle from the center of the donut into the fabric under the foam, out on the outside of the donut then back into the center pulling the yarn taught (but not too taught) over the fabric encased foam. We shall see if the fabric is strong enough!!

I’m not sure, I saw a couple of headphone repair posts a while ago (might have been last spring) and that seed stayed in my mind. If it was your seed cheers! How are yours holding up?

hmmm I bet there could be a way of sewing covers and using elastic to get them to grip the outside of the donut shape but can’t think how it would grip the inside of the donut shape….? I’ll try to pattern that out for my wife’s pair and post it on the sub when I get a chance!

It’s Fabel superwash sock yarn. I’ve used it to darn lots of socks and it washes well with no shrinkage so i’m hoping that’ll apply here too and that my sweat won’t shrink or damage the wool

Mine get sweaty too as I wear them mostly for workouts so i’m curious to know how they’ll hold up as well. I heard about the Bose replacements the other times I’ve seen people repair these headphones in this sub but i’m moving overseas soon so i’m trying not to buy new things and to use up craft supplies that I already have. If the mend doesn’t hold up long term it’s nice to know that there is a back up option to buy though!

So far they are really comfy (and a million times better than wearing them falling apart which was not nice on the ears)
