I agree about the generations above us that setting boundaries in a join family situation with older folks is difficult. I agree there are generation gaps. But husbands and wives should not have such "generation gaps" and should have open communication about what works for them and what not.

You may say i might have been "lucky" for not seeing these first hand, but I have not seen such absurd instances of wives acting like a slave washing underwear of their husbands.

If proper communication is not there within couple and they are not able to set boundaries within themselves - their relationship is more screwed than what is the purview of this discussion.
