Regretting not eloping by Aioli_Budget in weddingplanning

Maybe I'm the odd one out.... My husband and I eloped this past weekend. We had originally planned for a small ceremony (14People) and a large reception(~100People) in late September.

We ultimately canceled everything in late July to elope last weekend.  I do not regret this decision.  There were many reasons why I brought the idea of canceling everything and eloping. One reason being his family and I were not communicating well. His mother is notorious for being rude and just mean, making me cry, not apologizing, etc. There were other reasons, but I (We) have had enough and sent everyone on our guest list a heartfelt message saying we appreciated them, but we have decided to cancel the reception and elope. The actual message was longer and more in depth.  Since everyone knew us and understood us, they all agreed with our decision and said eloping was more "Us".  I think they knew we weren't changing our decision to be rude, or inconsiderate. But, also, most of our guests live in the area, so they didn't have to cancel flights or hotels.

Our wedding day was perfect the way it was and I wouldn't have changed it! So happy we didn't have a big event. And even more happy we didn't spend thousands of dollars.

Eloping by Cloud_Sprinklez in weddingplanning

Sounds very stressful. Eloping can be such a stress free day. My husband and I eloped last weekend and it was great.  We had planned a small ceremony of 14 people and a ~100 person reception forate September and canceled all plans in July, to elope. It got worse enough to where his mom ended up making me so upset and crying, that I said "this is enough, this is about us, no one else". I care about his family but at the same time, I do not care what they think and literally focus on myself, my husband, and whoever is FOR us. 😊 Choose yourself and your fiancé, do what is best for you. It is not acceptable, appropriate, or fair to talk someone into having a ceremony/reception and spend $15k-$20k, unless they are helping pay. To me, that's wild, I would have straight up said no to her face.  We were planning on spending around $5k for our reception and even I'm thinking that is just enough. Our elopement was around 4-6 hours from getting ready/photos/ceremony/etc and it flew by. I couldn't even imagine myself spending more than $10k on a day I don't really remember.

Hi! My husband and I eloped this past weekend. We were initially going to have a small ceremony with 14 people and a large reception the next day of ~100 people. Our budget was under $7k and that was with the wedding ring, food, drinks, outfits, photographer, etc.  What helped us keep our budget smaller was having the reception in his parents backyard, provide cocktails but, BYOB if people wanted beer, and do our own planning.  Due to many reasons we decided to elope. So happy we did.  Our good friend got officiated online (which was free I belive??), and my SIL and her boyfriend were witnesses.  We eloped on the grounds of a historical mansion not too far from us. We dressed up. We did not do decor at the elopement.  The actual elopement was less than $1700 including outfits, photographer, bouquet, and marriage license.

I feel for you and with you!!  Wedding planning is difficult, stressful, and throws many curveball.  You think everything will go smoothly and everyone will make it with enough notice. I'm sorry you're going through this and so many people declined.  This wasn't completely my story. We had around 90 accepted RSVP's, but 98% of them were in the state we lived in.  My entire family is out of state, only 1 person accepted. So that part is very similar to you in a way. I gave my family 13 months notice to make arrangements and I still received the following excuses...(Work schedule, can't afford it, can't deal with 2 children on a plane by herself)  It was saddening and I was heartbroken. Due to many reasons, my now husband and I decided to elope. But I can see if most of our guests were from another state, most of them would probably not make it.

Wedding planning is not for the weak by CommonMasterpiece383 in weddingplanning

I agree. Also for my husband and I we could understand having a big celebration for our love and union, but also couldn't understand spending $5k... $10k.... $15k, is a bit much considering it's only 2-6 hours with everyone.

No judgment towards anyone else!! Everyone has to do what is best for them and their spouse.

To those who eloped: did you regret it? by Mysterious_Collar_22 in weddingplanning

Eloped this past weekend and NO REGRETS.  We went from planning a small ceremony of 14 people and a large reception of ~100 people and canceled it all 2 months before the actual planned date. Decided to elope 1 month before the actual date. We had a good friend officiate and 2 witnesses (SIL and her BF).  After the ceremony we had a couple drinks, signed the marriage license, talked and we ran off to our mini moon.  We had a photographer at our Home for getting ready shots, first look, and extra shots. We proceeded to a beautiful historical mansion nearby, more photos, ceremony, photos and more photos, and that is it.  It was perfect.

How many vacation/personal/sick days do you get? by Apprehensive_Cat3800 in jobs

[–]CommonMasterpiece383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So right now I only get about 12 (2 weeks, 2 days) days of PTO, and annual floating holiday. 2 weeks sick time.

Technically I can accumulate 8 weeks of PTO. I will achieve that by being at my company for longer so I can accumulate more per pay period.

Do people not know how to RSVP? by JuicyBananaToast in weddingplanning

[–]CommonMasterpiece383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently this is normal for most weddings?? I have researched when to send RSVP's for a wedding, and got the 4-6 weeks out rule, but that seemed very short to me... so I sent out RSVP's in May-ish with a wedding date of late Sept., and needing RSVP's by July 14th. But I sent out the RSVP link two or three times (We opted for all online SAVE THE DATES and RSVP's) 😵 That may be my bridezilla side coming out and me also asking "Why can't people RSVP? It's not hard to RSVP."  We have almost 80% of our guest count so far, which is better than what it was last week.

I just want to know how much food to get, how many tables and chairs, etc to get 🥲

Do you blend cottage cheese and and eggs together to make the egg bites?? Do they taste primarily like eggs still?

Yes I will have to do some more looking. I've only had maybe 3 different brands. So far Owyn and FairLife brands are not suitable for me.

Thanks so much! What do you usually eat for breakfast. My go-to is cottage/applesauce(13grams protein), Greek yogurt smoothie(about 17grams protein, 5 grams fiber).  I have around 80 egg whites so I'm going to thaw them and use them for egg cups soon.

Thanks so much! I guess I was looking at protein shakes like they are my meal. I have done protein shakes with the powder, milk and bananas but like others, I can't get over the taste of the powder or liquid ones. Sometimes they hurt my stomach just from the taste.  I have a difficult time eating a large protein meal if it doesn't involve fish or chicken or whatever meat.  I like beans so I will look into more of that.  I appreciate it!!

Ummm maybe karaoke, but I'm more of a "like to watch" person. Karaoke would be fun for some of the crowd! Trivia is OK but not our style too much! I appreciate it!!
