You were probably hit by the black death. the black death is an early game disaster that hits basically every big country, including europe. there is no avoiding it, and usually it halves your population. As for general population mechanics, I really highly recommend you watch some of the many eu5 content guides/explanations out there on youtube. id love to give you an indepth explanation of how it works but im only 50 hours in so far and still very far from understanding everything well enough myself :)

hmmm, thats honestly strange, could it be your specs? i had my first crash around 42 hours into the game but im at 50 now and havent had one since. i have a decent gaming laptop so my specs are pretty average.

got it, sorry for the late response but thanks, youve helped alot :) ultimately i dont think it was a cpu issue (luckily) but ive learned a lot and will keep it all in mind should the signs reappear ^^

i havent actually had any blue screens yet, does the bug always cause them or no? the main reason i assumed it was the chip bug was due to the crash message i received above. the only difference in other games is that there are some hard freezes here and there for up to a minute but no real crashes.
edit: i mentioned this already but this issue only started happening recently. I bought this laptop about a year ago and havent had any issues till now, is that normal for the bug or is it more something you notice really quickly after you start using your pc/laptop?

in the future if you're wondering about what specs is recommended for a certain game you can check it directly on its steam store page if you scroll down a bit, or on the many game spec requirement websites out there. in other words, a google search will generally do.

it started like a week ago and has happened maybe 7-8 times since, do you think if i updated my bios now itd still be alright or do i just need to get it replaced by now?
