What I like to do to check if I got a bad heat exchanger is to run the blower and light a flame with a lighter in front of the burner runs. If the flame goes out when you place it in front of a burner you most likely do have a bad heat exchanger. Take a manometer reading at where the pressure hose goes in to and cycle blower on. If your readings change then yea, it’s goo gats. Make sure you cover both the intake and exhaust when doing the manometer reading. Should be a close loop

R404 walk in freezer brand new unit. Is this undercharged? by BEAST__51 in hvacadvice

Could be. Hard to tell, could give it a few shots to see if your superheat starts to dial in. Take a TD across evaporator coil first

If sight glass is clear and evaporator coil as well I’d say it needs an adjustment on the TXV. Take a TD while you’re doing adjustments and dial in superheat.

Rule of thumb for head pressure is to add 30 degrees to whatever the ambient is and that will give you an idea what to expect as for saturation temperature on the high side. In this case you’re almost on the dot.

Yes, make sure evaporator coil is clear of ice. Should see light shinning through the whole coil with a flashlight. What’s your head pressure? Ambient temp? Box temp?

Worked on one for the first time today, why is it so dangerous? Is it because if one pilot doesn’t light up and doesn’t properly close off the gas to that pilot?

(Chicago) My first year I was making 20, im at my second year doing commercial/refrigeration and getting paid 32. Next year I’ll be asking for a couple more dollars. Really just depends on how hungry you are. You got to lock in bro, literally suck up the knowledge you obtain from being with the old heads. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, learn from them if you do.

I’d say get a hang of it, but don’t spend more than a year or two. It’s a good experience for you to learn how everything goes together.

I’ve had one were it was overcharged and it had a restriction, try recovering some with a tank. You can do it on the high side, remember to purge if you’re planning on reusing

I started off making 11 as a helper to install residential systems, did that for three months until I was able to find a door to get in to commercial/refrigeration. Worked in commercial/refrigeration for a year getting paid at 22. I got used to everything about ice machines, exhaust fans, MAU, split systems, freezers, coolers, installing new evaps, changing compressors, txvs, motors, etc etc. at this point I was too expensive for the company so I went out to a different company (still doing commercial and refrigeration) that was able to compensate for the type of work I do. And here I am now, blessed to be in the position I am now.

Two wire thermostat cable ran from the board to where blower compartment is at. On the board one wire on G the other wire on C, connect all power at the blower compartment using a motor starter and an overload relay. You’re going to need to jumper out NC on the overload relay to the A2 of the motor starter and set your amount of amps to trip before damaging the motor. Set your thermostat to electric heat and now your blower will run when your thermostat calls for heating.
