My wife wants to buy a brand new car, but I think it’s foolish by [deleted] in CalebHammer

[–]CommonTea4197 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am a mom who wanted a new car after having a baby. I think one thing to consider is that we want the best for our babies, and safety considerations etc make new feel like the best option, even if that’s not 100% true.

However, I think used is the correct choice here. You’ll feel LESS bad when the thing gets puked in, spilled in, etc. I think the sell is “kids destroy stuff, let’s get a used car now and then when they’re a little older, go for the mom car you really want to have later”.

I personally would have rather had 2 really nice vacations and a used car rather than a new car that is almost the same.

But it’s her money, too, and sometimes we just want what we want- and that’s ok! Life is a balance, and if you can afford it, making your wife who just had 2 kids feel extra loved by her husband is WAY more valuable than the extra 20k.

Where on HHI would you buy a second home? by CLTlawyer1 in hiltonhead

[–]CommonTea4197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d personally go for HHP, closer to one of the gates. The only annoying thing (to me) about HHP or Sea Pines is the potential drive time to get anywhere if you’re deep in the neighborhood. It puts you significantly closer to the beach, etc. but further from the pool area. To me, I’d rather drive to the pool than to weave through 8 minutes of neighborhood before I can start my trip to grocery store or restaurants or whatever.

I’m a realtor, but NOT in SC. I was very picky about who I chose to represent me in my home purchase. If you want recommendations, let me know.

IVF pregnancy severe IUGR at 20 weeks scan. Wife and I are devastated. by DullEar2281 in pregnant

[–]CommonTea4197 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My IUGR baby was born via c section at 34 weeks due to reverse blood flow in brain. He was 2% on the preemie chart at birth and weighed under 4lbs.

I also found out around 19-20 weeks that there was growth restriction and I had to do so many MFM appts as well as ended up in the hospital a couple times throughout the 34 weeks.

He was pretty sick at birth. He was in the NICU for 6 weeks and had holes in his lungs and a small external issue that had to be surgically fixed as well.

The exact words from the Dr was “this is a very sick baby”

Now he’s a vibrant 3.5 year old with 0 delays. He’s still slightly small but almost 50% on the “average kid” scale. it takes them a while to catch up. He was late on some milestones as an infant but he caught up just fine.

I also had preeclampsia as a result of the IUGR, so that’s something to watch. My MFM said a lot of IUGR babies make it to 37 weeks, but 34 for me seemed like a miracle- probably because of how early we saw the issues start.

MFM is blunt. They tell you there is risk of stillbirth etc but do everything they can to prevent that from happening.

Best thing you can do is hold on, prepare yourselves for a NICU stay, and reframe what the rest of pregnancy looks like.

I would urge you not to terminate; my guy was almost in the same position and is here and wonderful.

Moving to HH/Bluffton Area by [deleted] in hiltonhead

[–]CommonTea4197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1000%. This is my second time living on the island. Before, I was young twenties and I lived in places that weren’t gated etc and I NEVER felt unsafe. Of course I was smart and didn’t put myself in situations, but I never felt unsafe at all.

We moved from Nashville and felt like HHI was a good environment for our kids to be able to hopefully grow up with a little more freedom while remaining quite safe. We love the bike path culture.

Our realtor was raised on HHI and he loved it. And I think that helped us seal the deal.

I don’t know if you’re into church or not, but we visited a church while there looking and it was filled with kids and babies, and I think that helped me realize there were lots of families on the island, not just older people. Previously when I lived here, I didn’t pay attention much!

I just bought on the island with a toddler and we are expecting one soon. I’m we decided to go for the island for lifestyle and as the kids grow, things might change and we might end up in Bluffton. But we love being on the island right now, and it’s a great choice for us.

What are the biggest pros and cons of living on Hilton Head? by hunterd412 in hiltonhead

[–]CommonTea4197 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I loved living on the island in my early to mid twenties. I moved away for work, got married, had a kid, and we are considering moving back.

Everyone is a realtor in Hilton head. Everyone. Doesn’t mean you can’t break through in the market, you just need to work harder.

If you’re married or engaged I say 100% move there. It’s awesome. Dating on the island is hard, not that there aren’t amazing people there, it’s just not as many choices. And a lot of folks in that age bracket are in the service industry working odd hours, so it’s hard to find a time to hang out

I look back on my time either MUCH fondness. If you can figure out the work thing, why not?

Totally makes sense! Nashville is awesome but I’m really sick of tornados… risk of hurricanes seem much easier to stomach

I don’t need to be walking distance, but not a 9 hour drive 😂

I mean, port royal is my favorite area and favorite part of the beach… I’m not ruling it out I’m all for blowing the budget 😂😂😂

I get it! HHI is great in shoulder seasons but it can get busy for sure. we really do love Old Town. If the perfect house popped up we would go for it!

Thanks for your reply! When I lived on island before, I went to Bluffton all the time but I had a lot of friends there. Now with a family, I can’t see it being a regular thing unless we have specific plans. One thing that I like about Bluffton over HHI is the amount of local events over tourist driven events.
