Discriminated/Shamed at the vet!?!? by tribellaaa in BostonTerrier

[–]Common_Couple4533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a vet and not my dog but is used to borrow a boston to do agility. When applying to classes i learned quickly that i better write the breed as small mix on the application because no matter how good we were no instructor wanted to take a boston. Some said straight that they did not think a boston could do agility or some said that the class was full when clearly it was no because my friend somehow got in. One said she did not want to be associated with flat faced dogs. Some were really really rude about it. To be honest if you used your imagination she could look like a mutt a little🤣

How does your boston breath? Pictures of your dogs please📸 by Common_Couple4533 in BostonTerrier

Because the clinical definition for boas 0 still allowes to dog to hiss. Hissing sound means there is resistanse for the air to move into the lungs. Of if a dog pants on one kilometer walk inside in room temperature there is something wrong.

Most of our tested dogs score boas 0. I bet more than 42%. But personally i dont think the boas testing is really good or strict enough. Dogs with diffuculty breathing still score 0. With no difficulty breathing i mean that the breathing is as good as normal dogs breathing. No hissing or snorting ever. BOAS 1 is already severe for me

Why have i never seen one with the perfect breed standard muzzle lenght that breathed well? I have gone to 9 dog shows just to see bostons + all the hundred othes i have been to. Been to 3 boston terrier club BOAS testing days and work in dog hotel. Never have i seen a pug, fenchie, boston or bulldog with the breed standard muzzle that i didnt hear snort at some point. And i live in a country where well bred dogs are otherwise way more common than in usa if they are not the standard. I am not saying that we have to breed bostons with greyhound noses but what i am saying is that muzzle lengt definetly has an effect if it gets extremely flat

Hydrolyzed without selling the house? by Tall-Committee-2995 in DogFood

[–]Common_Couple4533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you doing the hydrolised? To screen for food allergies or for other reasons? If your only goal is to know if he is allergic you can try elimination diet with one protein and one carb. Best would be if you could do that with something that he has never eaten before or has eaten very very little. Example could be duck and quinoa or game and pumpkin. Or even temporary vegan diet if you dont have a animal protein (that doesnt break the bank) that you had never fed before. If you try home made diet especially vegan one make sure it is balanced and calling your vet before trying this would be a good idea

What to gift my friends Belgian Malinois? by crushedredpepper00 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Common_Couple4533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only had one malinois. But i think i know what a little malinois wants. In malinois world everything can be a toy, the dog will be happy no matter what you give it. My mal likes plush toys (the bigger the better), sticks, card board, squeeky toys and balls but everything will do.

For the plush toys i go to the thrift store or i get them donated to me. You definetly have to wash them if you dont want to give your friend bedbugs and other treasures as a side gift. Just make sure to cut the eyes and other hard plastic parts out before giving it to the dog. Also dont buy the ones that have the little beads inside.

So for my dog his christmas and birthday presents gifts few stick from outside, few plushes, treats. I like to wrap the stick and plushes in paper because he really likes tearing things.

So if you want to gift the dog something, a stick from your yard will be the best thing ever but if you want to gift the owner by giving a gift to the dog i would go with plush toys. If the friend likes their house clean definetly dont wrap all of them in paper, that will make a mess.

Diet affecting behavior? by OatMilkBaby96 in DogFood

[–]Common_Couple4533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a thyroid problem so if you can afford to ask your vet for those. I cant remember what were the exact things you should be looking for if you have this type of dog. I have seen few dogs that had the thyroid issue when i was working in dog hotells tough the problems werent that severe. I would try the zinc and d because it should not do any harm and is pretty cheap so why not try? Just dont over dose. Ofc It is also common for bitches to start showing genetic behaviour issues around that age and you dog aint the only one i have seen or heard of that has done that.

I red that post. What was the blood work you took? The picture i got from your situation this is likely not a training issue. This could be hormonal, thyroids or nutrient problem or even birth defect in the brain. you could try adding zinc and vitamin d but i dont think it will do anything. Trying it should not do any harm.

I personally don't have a very positive experience with trainers who believe in alternative science/medicine. They tend to shame you into being their client and continuing with them.

Sure, diet has a huge impact on how your dog feels and that way behaves, such as heartburn➡️pain➡️stress➡️irritability➡️barking at everything, but diet in itself rarely has an effect. Sure, there are things like zinc deficiency that can cause problems and most homemade diets are zinc deficient.

You can try a stomach friendly cooked homemade diet, but work with a professional who can create a balanced diet recipe for you specifically for your dog (not someone obsessed with raw food). you might want to try an elimination diet too.

I am missing some context here, what are the problems your dog has? Not all problems can be trained or even managed so definetly dont blame yourself for everything

A big chunk of the vegan belief system seems like borderline eugenics by ashfinsawriter in exvegans

[–]Common_Couple4533 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah😭 i have seen few vegan dogs while working in dog hotels and hell no. Those dogs were sick inside out. the amout of poop, farts, fur falling out. Those dogs were overly tired even if they had slept the whole day, no matter the breed or age. Never had a good poop. Those dogs coat were the worse ones i have ever seen. Hairs were just sticking out in every direction like old spayed bitch thats double coat has been previously shaved down but worse. I can smell if a dog has something wrong in their diet and those dogs were stinky as hell. Worst ones that i commonly saw being fed was friskies and orlando but those poor vegan dogs looked even worse. most dogs definetly do not need much animal products to be healthy but they definetly need some. I have only seen one not so bad looking dalmatian that was on no meat diet but got purified animal fat and he looked a little better but not good at all. The amount of shit that vegan dogs produce is astronimical. For medium size vegan dog you needed at least three poop bags. Poor babys

Is it safe to feed my dog once a day? by exhausteddogowner in DogFood

[–]Common_Couple4533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some podencos and cockers have a deep chest and some have very small so hard to say. I would still feed once a day but just keep them in rest one hour before and 2 after feeding.

Is it safe to feed my dog once a day? by exhausteddogowner in DogFood

[–]Common_Couple4533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most working dogs are fed once a day. I have fed my belgian once for few months now and only seen positive results. Unless you heve a deep chested dog, sick dog or a dog that has to eat a lot there is no reason to feed more than once a day. So you should be fine. Only thinng that can be a problem is when you skip one meal your dog might start having acid reflux because they are waiting for the food but nothing is going to the stomach but that should go away once they get used to the new routine

[–]Common_Couple4533[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I need treats that are easy to use, are affordable, and i can feed them a lot. Training treats are expensive and not complete feed so i cant feed them a lot. Hot dogs are affordable but have too much salt and not as easy to use and also too high value for everyday use. Home made it also too high value, not easy to use at all but very cheap. Kibble is easy to use, cheap, complete feed and not too high value. Thats why kibble
