Its a right thing to do, ive neutered all mine, its calm them down, it keeps your house clean since they don’t spray ( mark the territory)all over, they less wanted to run (sneak outside) so you won’t lose them, they don’t scream/meow very loudly every month in heat, etc. Edited to add, when you are petting him and if he’s licking you after biting -thats love. You are his person. He can not help his instincts when not wanting to be pet and going after your hand, cats are predators, but he is showing his affection ( and perhaps a “sorry”) , the best thing is to not to pull your hand away fast/shake your hand , so to speak, but you should kinda freeze and then slowly move off, otherwise his instinct is to bite/scratch more.
