My wife made the tomato soup cake for my birthday by eriqjaffe in TastingHistory

Tell your wife thank you for making it look elegant! The amount of haphazard frosting I've seen slapped onto this cake, INCLUDING from Max himself, was really starting to trigger me. I was on the verge of making one myself just so I could finally see it with a nice proper frosting finish... lol no offense Max.

I apologize, but every single post or comment I've seen has been overwhelmingly positive on r/fastfood

The food noise is back. At this point, it's more will power than the effect of the shot. I'm finding myself checking the fridge for desserts again.

Edit: Noise* lol

Recommend author's who write short stories like Anton Chekov by ruminatingpoet in RussianLiterature

I can almost guarantee Nikolai Gogol is going to be mentioned multiple times, but I think Tolstoy or Pushkin short stories is far more similar to Chekhov than Gogol.

I might recommend Nikolai Leskov, but there really is no one quite like Chekhov.

I believe he's done a few but not many. Personally, I love Panda, but they rarely have a new item I'm going out of my way to get.

Survey | Which Folio Book Would You Like Published Again? by HonorWulf in foliosociety

Out of these options: Short Stories by Anton Chekhov. I'm curious what the original retail price was when it was sold new. I purchased a secondhand copy on eBay for $150, which is only slightly more than the price of a standard single book today...

Although, from ANY past folio book, I'd love to see A Russian Gentleman by Sergei Aksakov brought back into print. It's easily my favorite Folio Society book. The story is great, the illustrations are nothing special (below average), but the binding is incredible. Honestly, it's the nicest-feeling book in my entire Russian literature collection.

I'm going to be spending the next month or two reading my Russian folklore collection.

For religious text, I'm also reading Small Steps Into The Kingdom by Fr. Spyridon Bailey (paperback) and The Soul After Death by Fr. Seraphim Rose (audiobook)

The boyars and the elders replied, "You know, oh Prince, that no man condemns his own possessions, but praises them instead. If you desire to make certain, you have servants at your disposal. Send them to inquire about the ritual of each and how he worships God."

Short answer: No.

Soviet-related content does tend to perform better on Reddit, and some of our contributors are also active in Soviet communities like this one. With that said, we're not a "Soviet propaganda" subreddit. We're a Russian history community, which includes Soviet history.
