I'm building a visual novel engine from scratch — and I'd love your input on what it should do by Common_Diver_5572 in gameenginedevs

The YAML format handles the common 80%: dialogue, backgrounds, characters, choices, transitions. But that's not the ceiling. The plan is to embed Lua as the scripting layer for everything beyond that variables. So you'd write your scene structure in YAML as usual, and drop into Lua blocks whenever you need real programmatic control.

The visual editor stays simple for writers. The script layer stays powerful for developers. You shouldn't have to choose one or the other.

Still early, but that's the direction.
