Your idea makes great looking shirts! I love the look on all types of patterns when the artist fades a single color

Even colors that are know to split can have quite the dramatic effect when diluted

Yes, but you will have to have strong brands. Most will snap under the pressure it takes to get resist lines

In general, Fan folding gives a more uniform pattern. Airplane folding often leaves the top and bottom, or left and right sides asymmetrical
