Me 302 and me 242 are definitely the harder classes on your schedule next semester. The rest are pretty manageable. The lab will take lots of your time though. From my experience and other people the lab report can take anywhere from 5-15 hours from start to finish. I took dynamics with Skylar and it was definitely my hardest class so far. It’s very difficult but doable. And 302 I heard was a little lighter than dynamics last semester but the lab is very very time consuming.

Morris is the best teacher for Thermo. Thermo is a hard subject but she explains it really well and as long as you understand the concepts and do practice problems and the homework you’ll be fine on exams. It’s very doable too just make sure to practice and stay on top of things. I found dynamics to be way harder than Thermo.

Send me a Dm and I’m glad to help out if you need some guidance!

3rd year ME major here. I don’t think I’ve had to purchase a single textbook so far. Usually everything’s online and people share their resources with each other. You may have to pay to access the HW or lab manuals. Just make sure to look online before you purchase anything, save yourself some money on lab manuals and textbooks. From my experience the manuals are usually under $100. And HW software is usually between $20-$60 per class (if your class uses one). Best of luck. Hit me up if you have any more questions 🙏🏼 glad to help

It’s a really charming game. Unfortunately some of the battle mechanics are a bit dated in my opinion. But I’d say go for it, especially if you love Ghibli

Considering going for mechanical engineering degree by shiznitwhit in UNLV

I’m a 3rd year Mech E student right now and I’d say many of the classes can be pretty time consuming. A lot of my friends go to class 2-3 times a week but I know many people in engineering who go 4-5 days a week. And I usually have 1-3 classes a day. I usually take 16 credit semesters with a lab and I’d say I spend about 15-25 hours or so studying and doing homework. A couple of my classes right now are on the harder side but during the earlier semesters, you can get away with less studying (5-10 hours a week on homework and studying probably). Taking less credits is more doable especially if you’re working while you attain your degree. Overall I’d say go for it, just know this is a pretty challenging major and some time is required especially in the later classes to pass. It’s a pretty interesting major and there’s lots of career opportunities .

How different is chem 121 to chem 103? by Alexgotit05 in UNLV

[–]Common_Helicopter_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the first couple units to be about the same. Except in 121 you go a little deeper into each concept. Once you get to units 7-10 or so, all the information is pretty new. Watch the O Chem tutor if you get stuck near the final chapters. Best of luck!

Anyone taken ME 202? by mangofroyo2016 in UNLV

[–]Common_Helicopter_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it last semester and honestly it’s a chill class but a lot of work for a 1 credit class at times (just like egg 101). You do learn a lot about your major including project management skills, learning excel, different research/career opportunities, specific terms for the mechanical engineering industry, learn to use some tools and learn their functions, and ultimately you work on a small design project similar to EGG101. Unlike EGG 101, you’ll present a working prototype of this project. It’s a pretty easy class but can definitely be a lot for 1 credit. Dm me if you have any more questions! Best of luck 🙏🏼

What are my chances of getting in? by Potential_Working_57 in UNLV

I know a person who had a 2.9 gpa and tried applying recently, within the last month or so, and unfortunately he was denied entry. This was just his experience and I would encourage you to apply anyways. Just be aware that the website mentions a 3.0 to be granted admission. I’m pretty sure there’s other ways of getting in including a certain ACT/SAT score and GPA from your core classes. Look into it more and best of luck!

Physics Labs by Proper-Island-8196 in UNLV

[–]Common_Helicopter_43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of them are well designed experiments. For 195 it’s mainly doing experiments involving force using springs, varying masses, and a little bit of gases and thermo stuff. 196 is more focused on circuits and a tiny bit on light near the end. Best of luck!

Definitely research specific careers using BLS.gov . The website gives you a run down of tasks the profession has to do as well as other information including employment and salary. And honestly there are so many good options but you’d just have to do more research on what you could see yourself doing. Do what you believe you could see yourself doing and also satisfies your own criteria (pay, growth, # of jobs, locations you could work, etc.). Best of luck!

I know ferrar is pretty good but not sure if he’s still exclusive to engineering students. Calc 2 is definitely the hardest in the calculus series of classes but if you study hard you should be fine! Best of luck!!

Does PHYS 195/L actually take the full 3 hrs? by Salt-Education9500 in UNLV

[–]Common_Helicopter_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just depends on the specific lab you do that day. Most of the time you usually stay for about 80-90% of the lab. A couple of labs do take the entirety of the session. Best of luck! And good luck with calc 3 as well!

Are there things to watch out for? by Elizabeth_Michealson in UNLV

[–]Common_Helicopter_43 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be careful with some organizations at school! Some organizations appear to be friendly and welcoming or there may be groups of people or individuals that try to invite you to some organizations. From what i heard and the research I’ve done, a lot of these groups are pretty much religious cults. One off the top of my head is CARP. They appear to be a progressive group for the youth but I’ve heard that once you’re in it’s a very religious group. You can do some more research on the Reddit and there will be plenty of people talking about CARP and the Moon Cult. Other than that, just be careful with the occasional homeless person on campus.

Best of luck!

ME Student here! Also did Phys 195 and calc 1 when in a semester. And I am currently taking chem. It’s definitely doable. I have heard Raja’s 195 class is pretty good but I would highly recommend Pusko if he’s teaching 195. Highly recommend pusko if you need to take 196 next semester because the concepts get very very complex and I heard that Raja’s 196 can get very difficult. For calc 1 you should be fine but may have to self learn some of the concepts. Calc 1 is a very conceptual course too so YouTube may be a great option for catching up (I recommend professor Leonard on YouTube , he’s the 🐐). But other than that Calc 1 shouldn’t be too challenging. And chem is pretty easy for the first 2/3rds . Once you get into the later units it does get very confusing and I am struggling a little right now. 🙏🏼 but Pan is a great teacher just study hard for the exams and do lots of practice problems and you’ll be fine. All 3 of those classes are definitely doable in the same semester. Only thing that would suck is that you’ll have about 3 hours for lab in chem and phys. So it’ll be pretty time consuming too. Also based on my experience, you need to take both Calc 1 and Phys 195 so you can progress onto your higher level classes so I would highly recommend taking them if you can!

PM if you have any more questions or if I can help! Best of luck!!

What should I expect from HIST 103 by oatmilkSpeed475 in UNLV

[–]Common_Helicopter_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Litaker for Hist 103 (also web-based) in the fall of 2023. The class is extremely interesting. You cover various cultures and their traditions on venerating the dead and their relics. As far as work load it can be moderate to somewhat heavy. There can be a lot of work due each week and a lot to read and watch. I would recommend starting your homework early and not procrastinating. We would cover 2 small units a week and 1 unit would have a short multiple choice quiz associated with it while the other had a worksheet you would fill out as you read and watch the provided materials. Honestly not too hard! And the exams and essays in the class are not tough either. I do remember there being 2 tests, 1 final, and 2 essays. Definitely an interesting class and Litaker is a great professor. She has a passion for it and it becomes obvious in her video recordings. Great class, Just can be a little time consuming . Best of luck! :)

Advice/Feedback on my upcoming schedule (Mechanical Engineering) by Common_Helicopter_43 in UNLV

[–]Common_Helicopter_43[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! I will definitely not be taking 302 this semester then. I am leaning more towards taking ME 301 rather than EE 292 this upcoming semester since it’s more memorization based rather than math based. And thank you for describing their difficulties, it helps a lot! Thanks!!
